CONDITION REPORT: The inscribed presentation inscription is on the top rim of the teapot. The pin joining the top handle to the main body is loose but still intact. Where the top section of the handle is joined to the teapot body there is a small tear to the silver on the underside which is not instantly visible. The handle is formed as a branch and the uppermost knot in this branch has a small 4 mm split/gouge beneath. There is a small sprig of prunus flowers missing from the knop similar to that on the sugar bowl cover. The teapot lid shows concentric circles where the decoration to the knop may have not been secure and has spun round similar to that seen on the sugar bowl cover. There is a very slender 1.5 cm section of soldering to the left hand side of the teapot spout. Otherwise the main body is in good order throughout with no obvious chips, cracks or restorations visible. The sugar bowl and cream jug both appear to be in good condition with no obvious faults. There are some minor scratches to the paint surface particularly to the right of the signature and in one or two other places on the green foreground. These are minor but visible on close inspection. Lot 1173

A vintage Hammond typewriter, American, with oak base and case. Case width 35 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The rear left-hand bottom corner of the lid has a 2 cm x 3 cm section of damage of which half is missing but the reminder is broken off from which issues a 4 cm fine crack. There are traces of glue throughout the interior where the top may have come separated from the sides but all looks to be intact. There may have been a label on the front of the typewriter which is now missing and all that is left is a relief oval panel. There are numerous surface scratches and varnish losses throughout. There is a very fine 6 cm long split to the raised front section. There is a typed label still attached to the interior of the case with minor losses and tears. The keyboard measures 33 cm across, the measurement is taken from the furthest left-hand key to the furthest right-hand key. It measures 29 cm approx from front to rear. 15 cm high. All the keys appear to work. The wood base still retains its silver-plated roundel. The mechanism appears to be complete but I cannot say as to whether any of the parts have been changed at some point in its life. Wear and tear generally seems to be commensurate with age.

Olivia Baynham Still life with bread, tomatoes and candelabra Oil on board Signed lower right 30.5 x 40.5cm (12 x 15¾ in.) Similar works by this artist retail at: £500 Olivia Baynham: Olivia is a portrait and figurative artist. Olivia was born in London in 1994, and brought up in Hampshire. After leaving school at 18, she studied an art foundation at City and Guilds in London. Once she had graduated, she decided she wanted to develop her draftsmanship skills further and attempt a more rigorous training method in Florence, Italy. Olivia studied traditional portraiture in Florence for four years at Charles Cecil Studios. Here, she learnt the old masters technique called the 'sight-size method' whereby you measure and observe the model from a distance and to the scale of life, painting under natural light. Masters, such as John Singer Sargent and Sir Thomas Lawrence, used this technique whilst its origins lie in the practise of Van Dyke, Velasquez and Titian. She is now living in London and has a studio in Barons Court. Olivia is accepting portrait, nude and still life commissions.

Lot 6

Jane Skingley The Wren Oil on board Titled lower right, Signed and titled verso 30 x 30cm (11¾ x 11¾ in.) Similar works by this artist retail at: £850 Jane Skingley: Jane Skingley is best known for her dramatic interpretation of seascapes and clouds. She also paints landscapes, birds and flowers. The common thread in her subject matter is a love of the outdoors and nature. The coastline is a big source of inspiration. She has exhibited work at the Royal College of Art, The Royal Society of Marine Artists and Glyndebourne opera house in East Sussex. In 2017 she undertook a large commission for the WWF on the subject of climate change which was exhibited at the Houses of Parliament. Jane’s work is regularly exhibited at art fairs in London and New York, including the London Art Fair and the Affordable Art Fair. In addition, she is represented by Jenna Burlingham Fine Art, The Lemon Street Gallery, The Flint Gallery, Serena Hall Gallery and Corte Real Gallery in the Algarve. Jane began her artistic endeavour at an early age but apart from a period of studying with an artist, she is largely self-taught. She has a degree in Geography from Durham University and went on to have a successful career in public relations before giving this up to paint. 'My work is about capturing moments,' she says. 'It could be the beach that I went to as a child, or on a family holiday, or the view from my daily country walk. Images may be based on a fleeting memory or a place that is visited over and over, each time seeing something different.' My still life and bird paintings are about simple everyday memories, wild flowers picked on my morning walk, simply placed in a jam jar, or a bird visiting my bird table. This often overlooked beauty is given focus so that it can be enjoyed again and again. Jane is a resident artist at The Base, Greenham, and undertakes commissions of seascapes and landscapes.

Lot 9

Hamish Mackie, Otter on a rock, 2008 Bronze, signed Ham and inscribed 2008, 21/25 28cm high, 25cm wide Similar works by this artist retail at: £5,000 Hamish Mackie: British wildlife sculptor Hamish Mackie has had the privilege of observing wildlife in many corners of the world at first hand. “Observing animals in their own environment, in their natural habitat, is essential to understanding the subject’s physical and instinctive traits. For example, the disposition of a captive predator is very different from that of a predator the wild,” he says. This close observation, often involving intense research trips and sculpting from life in the field, informs Hamish’s whole approach to his work, which resonates with his passion for the natural world. His bronze wildlife sculptures capture instinctive moments of animal behaviour but are his own interpretation, not merely photographic representations. Hamish manages to convey the inner core, strength and grace of his subject. Largely self-taught, his style is unique - he frequently works in spontaneous, often unrepeatable, fluid gestures with a confidence born from many years of mastering his craft. This assertive handling of his materials, coupled with an acute understanding of anatomy, results in strong, dynamic, ‘living’ sculptures. “It is close observation of my subject’s behaviour that really brings my pieces to life. I want to convey a sense of character, their spirit. This determines how I handle my material - in a loose fluid manner or in a tighter, more controlled way; with large sweeping strokes, or with smaller detail. A sculpture should have its own power. I want the viewer to feel an emotional response.” (Hamish Mackie) Born in 1973, Hamish Mackie grew up on a livestock farm in Cornwall, England. In the kitchen of the family farm, there still hangs his first bronze sculpture - a calf’s head he made at the age of 12 as a Christmas present for his father. He attended Radley College and Falmouth School of Art, before going on to study design at Kingston University. He began sculpting full time in 1996. Hamish has works in public and private collections around the world. His wildlife sculptures are cast in bronze or silver as limited editions, each signed, dated and numbered. Each sculpture takes on average four months to be sculpted, moulded and then cast into bronze using the lost wax method. It is a highly skilled, labour-intensive process. In 2007, Hamish built a studio in Oxfordshire, where he now lives and works with his wife Laura and their three daughters. He has travelled to Antarctica, the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, Africa, United Arab Emirates, Australia and India, as well as all over Europe, to study wildlife and he often writes about these trips on his blog. In 2014, Hamish Mackie won a major public art commission - Goodman’s Fields Horses for the Berkeley Homes Goodman’s Fields development in the City of London - six life and quarter size horses running loose through the pedestrianised plaza. During this year long project, he collaborated with Lockbund Foundry to create a new foundry big enough for the job that required over a kilometre of steel for the armatures, six tonnes of clay, one tonne of silicone rubber and four tonnes of bronze. The sculptures were unveiled in 2015 to critical acclaim and the following year, won the Public Monuments and Sculptures Association’s Marsh Award for Excellence in Public Fountains. In 2016, Hamish also presented his sixth Solo Show, Life in Bronze, at Mall Galleries, London to great critical acclaim.
