Composed by fashion photographer whose life was changed forever one day in 1945 when he met a lovely young aspiring innocent and charming model named Norma Jean Dougherty. This compilation is the result of many adventurous road trips together capturing Norma Jean in every possible natural setting in his original, inspired style. He soon built up a huge portfolio of stunning photographs of the smiling brunette which helped to launch her model career and, a few years later, a film career that was to make her a legend. His entire relationship with the star, including many private moments shared only between the two, is detailed in de Dienes' secret memoirs, which were discovered when Monroe fans ravaged his home after his death in 1988. Never before published, the memoirs tell a beautiful story of love and friendship from the point of view of someone who knew Marilyn intimately; describing the transformation from Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe - the evolution of a sensitive, ambitious girl into a deeply troubled megastar - from an inside perspective, they shed light on a little-known side of Marilyn. Includes Bonus Booklet. Never been opened, still sealed. Artist: Andre De DiennesIssued: 2011Dimensions: 9.5"W x 12"HManufacturer: TaschenCondition: Age related wear. Slight tear of plastic on front.

Willem van Mieris (Leiden 1662-1747) Wooded Landscape with Figures, showing a wooded landscape with two women, with inscription 'W. vanMieris Fec' to the middle of the bottom, black chalk, black chalk framing lines, with other drawings to verso 25.5cm x 19.5cm Willem van Mieris was a Dutch painter born in Leiden in 1662, and he died in 1747. He was the son of Frans van Mieris the Elder, a renowned painter and founder of the Leiden school of fijnschilders or "fine painters." Willem trained with his father and his brother, Jan van Mieris, who was also a successful painter. Like his father and brother, Willem specialized in small-scale, highly detailed genre scenes and portraits, often depicting middle-class interiors and the daily life of Dutch citizens. He was particularly skilled at capturing textures and fabrics, and his paintings often feature richly decorated rooms and costumes. Willem's style was heavily influenced by his father's work, but he also drew inspiration from other artists of the Dutch Golden Age, such as Johannes Vermeer and Gerard Dou. His paintings are characterized by their precise brushwork, luminous color, and attention to detail. Despite his artistic talents, Willem van Mieris struggled with financial difficulties throughout his life. He had to sell many of his paintings to support his family, and he never achieved the same level of success as his father or brother. Nevertheless, he was highly respected by his contemporaries, and his work is still highly regarded today for its technical skill and beauty. Some of Willem van Mieris' most famous works include "The Duet," "The Fish Seller," and "The Spinner." His paintings can be found in major museums around the world, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Louvre in Paris.
Attributed to Abraham 'Abiah' Gibbens (Dutch, fl. circa 1629-35)Still life of fish and crayfish on a ledgesigned Abiah Gibbens f. 16... lower edgeoil on canvas87.5 x 112cmNot much is known about the Flemish still life painter Abraham (sometimes referred to as 'Abiah') Gibbens, apart from that he was active in Antwerp and for a time in Paris, where he is recorded as having joined the corporation of Saint Germain-des-Prés as a master painter. In his Dictionary of Dutch and Flemish Still-Life Painters Working in Oils (p. 89), Fred G. Meijer refers to a still life of fish by Gibbens, signed and dated 1635, which he describes as the pair to a large canvas still life of fruit. That still life of fruit, one of only three known signed works by Gibbens, is likely the large canvas that appeared first at Sotheby's London in 2005 (Old Master Day Sale, 8 December, lot 239) and again, more recently, at Leclere Maison de Ventes in Marseille (Maîtres Anciens, 12 October 2016, lot 12, 30,000 EUR). That still life is recorded as having the same dimensions as the present still life of fish, and it is possible that this canvas is the other half of the known pair referred to by Meijer.
