PLEASE NOTE: Since the catalogue went to press we have been informed that Karmann purpose-built 207 examples of the CSi to right-hand drive specification. Previous RHD 3.0 CSi cars were built to left-hand drive specification and then converted to right-hand drive by Karmann prior to distribution among BMW's RHD dealer network. In summary BMW sold more than 207 RHD 3.0 CSi cars with earlier examples beginning life as left-hand drive shells.PLEASE NOTE: This lot failed its Autolign Inspection due to the following: (1) 'Cosmetic Exterior Panel Repairs', (2) 'Some high spot body filler repair readings to both offside and nearside 'A' and 'B' posts. Same area needs further investigation', (3) 'Rear Service brakes inefficient below MOT minimum standard' and (4) 'Rear Panel MIG / Gas welded to boot floor with open seam work'. A copy of the Autolign Inspection Report is available to view in the Documents' Office. Since the inspection was carried out the vendor has had the rear service brakes adjusted and the recommended welding attended to. He has not investigated the 'A' and 'B' posts because he did not want to disturb the paintwork / associated trim. - Extensively restored and upgraded with BMW M5 engine (estimated 325bhp), gearbox and differential- Later-type front seats, power steering, Alpina wheels, electric windows- MOT'd till February 2017Just 207 RHD examples of the Karmann-bodied 3.0 CSi are thought to have been UK supplied. According to an accompanying letter from BMW (UK) Ltd, this particular example was manufactured on August 30th 1973. Originally finished in Fjord Blue, it was the subject of an insurance total loss payment during July 1991. The reason why is unknown. However, it seems highly improbable that the CSi suffered any major structural damage if only because of its subsequent transformation. Acquired by classic car restorer and race preparer Costa Ouloupis as a personal project in 2005, the BMW became a labour of love that took some six years to complete. Stripped bare, the bodyshell was refurbished with a replacement bonnet, front panel, boot lid, doors and front wings. Repainted in its initial Fjord Blue livery, it then received a drivetrain transplant from an E34-series BMW M5. No stranger to the Munich firm's machinery, Mr Ouloupis overhauled the DOHC straight-six with Shrik camshafts so that it developed an estimated 325bhp. Utilising the same donor vehicle's close-ratio five-speed manual gearbox and limited slip differential seemed prudent as did installing Bilstein suspension and vented disc brakes hidden behind period 16-inch Alpina alloys (the latter being the only external clue to the Coupe's much enhanced turn of speed). Chosen for their greater comfort and support, the E34-series M5 also donated its Beige leather seats to the project. A real wolf in designer sheep's clothing, `TLN 501M' is understood to have covered circa 3,000 miles since its refurbishment / upgrading was completed. Still highly presentable, it seemingly offers the best of both worlds; classic styling allied to modern high performance. Passing its last MOT certificate on February 12th 2016 with no advisories, the vendor has arranged for the BMW to undergo an HPi-approved Autolign inspection so as to reassure any potential purchasers (www.autolign-inspections.co.uk).
MG Magnette Mk4 “Farina” 1963 LHD Automatic - In 1961 MG replaced their Mk3 Farina bodied Magnette with the MK4 improving the handling and engine along the way with new anti-roll bars front and rear, suspension that lowered the ride height of the car plus a longer, wider wheel base. The engine was replaced using the 1622cc unit from their successful sports car the MGA. All this gave these later MG saloons handling and performance more akin to the sports car heritage associated with the “MG” name. This superb example is a very rare automatic gearbox equipped Left Hand Drive model that was manufactured for the USA home market and first registered in 1963. Having spent most of its life prior to re-importation in a warm dry climate and with only 67000 odd miles recorded in total, it has survived excellently both externally and internally. Presented in a lovely hue of dark green, the paintwork appears to be original with only small areas where the expected odd scratch etc have been rectified over the years. As the vendor states, this car has never been rusty or restored. The interior is the same, still original in Dove Grey leather and having never had a radio fitted the dash is un-cut with the original matching wood blanking plate in place and unused standard speaker mount below. There is a small area of discoloration to the driver’s seat bolster which seems to be where something was spilt and then cleaned at some point. Easy to recolonise to lose this which the vendor resisted doing as he preferred its originality. Mechanically the vendor describes the engine as “runs as quiet as a mouse” with the auto gearbox operating as it was designed to, as do all the other mechanics on the car. In fact in 2015 he completed a 1000 odd mile trip through France visiting the famous WW2 sites such as Normandy, all without the car missing a beat. The car comes complete with a large file of old MOT’s, invoices etc etc plus handbooks, manuals and period sales literature, it even has an original American “Pink slip” . The vendor also wants to bring to attention to all perspective owners, the car is so original it is still running as a “positive Earth” car as designed. With only 7 in total Farina bodied MK3 and 4 Magnettes now left taxed for road use and one more on SORN, these cars are getting exceedingly rare and are increasing in value every day. This is a turn key ready to go car with the vendor placing a new MOT prior to its sale at the auction. Being offered at the sort of reserve that makes it a must buy for any collector or somebody looking for an entry into affordable classic car ownership. NOTE. Personal plate has been removed now back on the correct Age Related “A” suffix plate and a “Heritage Certificate” for the car is in the paperwork. The original amber front lenses are supplied if the new owner wishes to replace the clear ones with amber bulbs that are currently fitted. MOT now carried out which it passed with flying colours.
Rover 3500 P6 Automatic 1972 - Every now and then you see a car that makes you think” Where has that been all its life? This 1972 Rover P6 3500 is one of those cars. With only 72618 recorded miles on the clock and with a service history that fills its service book to back that up, it can only be described as Excellent in fact the exterior that is the only part of the car that has been restored is described by the vendor as “As New” a major claim for any car that is over 40 years old! Interior is completely original, the black leather is lovely and gives off that welcoming smell only old leather can give. While showing little or no wear but having that lovely and correct aged finish. All the electrics internally are correct and fully functioning as are the external electrics too. Mechanically all aspects again are described as “excellent” with the engine starting instantly, the big V8 up front still pulling as strongly as the day it left the factory and the Automatic gearbox changing smoothly and correctly. Coming with a current MOT this car is ready to go, would grace any ones collection or garage and represents a rare opportunity to buy a P6 this good.
