Meijer: A Dictionary of Dutch and Flemish Still-life Painters Working in Oils, 1525-1725, Leiden 2003, S. 176.Hans van Sant ist ein nahezu geheimnisvoller Maler, zu dem bislang kaum archivalische Nachweise gefunden werden konnten. A. v. d. Willigen und F. Bereits zuvor hatte NRA Vroom (op. cit., Bd. 1, S. 202) unser Gemälde in seinem Standardwerk zu monochromen banketjes publiziert und konstatiert: „This painting shows a characteristic self-consciousness of such a high quality that the temptation to attribute it to a better-known master can scarcely be resisted”.
