Rachel Wyndham (b.1955)3 Cyclamen in Studio - 2015Signed (to reverse)Oil on panel40 x 50cm (framed)Horatio's Garden will receive 100% of the hammer price on this lot. Rachel Wyndham has lived in a very small hamlet tucked into a fold of the South Downs in Sussex near the sea, for over 30 years. Her main love being nature, she has painted the landscape and where possible her garden for many years. Her studio, hidden in a corner of her garden is where she paints almost anything that inspires her, from still life to portraits. Wyndham’s main medium is oil paint and she often paints on wood for its natural texture. The Hebrides hold a particular fascination for Wyndham and she visits a small island there as much as possible.
Keith Jansz MFPA (b.1961)Studio Still Life with RosesSigned with initials CKJ (lower left)Oil on canvas47 x 37cm (framed) Horatio's garden will receive 100% of the hammer price on this lot. Two months after running the London Marathon for Barnardo’s in 1995, Keith Jansz broke his neck in a car accident which left him paralysed from the chest down. He spent six months in Stoke Mandeville Hospital, coming home to adjust to a new way of life. The gift of a book about the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists inspired him to start learning to paint by mouth and Keith progressed rapidly, surprising himself, painting in oils and sketching in pastel and charcoal. His style is influenced by his heroes the Impressionists, his work being reproduced around the world, and his paintings have been exhibited from Shanghai to Vienna, Mexico City to Copenhagen.
Tania Schmieder (German b.1982)Jonathan's BowlSigned with initials TS (to right)Oil on cotton40.5 x 60cm Tania Schmieder was born in Kenya, lived her early childhood in Brunei, and arrived in England at nine. Although her formal education was in medicine, she left that field only a year after graduating and began painting after being powerfully inspired by the still life paintings of Tony de Wolf and Helen Simmonds. She says: “They gave me a sense that there might be a place in the world after all for the quiet and sensitive aspects of my nature, and that did me a lot of good!”
Karen Camkin (b.1967) Mrs B's TulipsSigned (lower left)Oil on gesso100 x 100cm Karen Camkin received her MA Fine Art (Distinction) in 2012 from the University of Gloucestershire and her BA in painting from Exeter Art College in 1991. She is currently studying for a MA in Print at the Royal College of Art. She has been selected multiple times for the Lynn Painter Stainers, the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, The Royal West of England and Discerning Eye. Since 2019 she has regularly shown with Eastwood Fine Art and runs classes and workshops from her studio in Gloucestershire. Her still life paintings are inspired by seasonal flowers and the featured pottery in many paintings is also made by Camkin. The works are full of colour, painted in layers of oil that are sometimes scraped and sanded to reveal previous marks. Her mark making is lively and fresh to capture the movement and fragility within nature.
