Don Balke (North Carolina, B. 1933) "Deer in Forest" Signed lower right. Original Watercolor painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. A picture of grace and speed, the White-tailed Deer merits its reputation as a survivor against the encroachments of man and nature. Long ago, the frontier nation looked to this splendid creature for venison and buckskin. Yet, the White-tails still range most of America, seemingly undaunted by their human predators. One reason the animals have such an amazing survival rate is that they are extremely well adapted for life in the wilderness. Their coats are so well insulated, the Deer can lie on snow without melting it. This coat's tubular hairs also give the Deer buoyance in swimming. Most important of all, the White-tailed Deer is adept at protecting himself from danger. Although the forest hums with activity, the White-tail immediately recognizes the snap of a twig which signals a predator's presence. As if fitted with springs, the Deer takes to flight, effortlessly escaping the clutches of her foe. Her fawn, less nimble than his mother, is no less capable of protecting himself. Since his body does not emit the mother's telltale musk odor, the fawn can lie motionless and escape the detection of his enemies. His white spots perfectly camouflage him against the dapple forest background. Equipped by nature to escape danger, the White-tail remains a populous American animal. In fact, wildlife experts estimate that more than eight million of the White-tailed Deer roam America today. Image Size: 13.5 x 14.5 in. Overall Size: 14 x 17 in. Unframed. (B11417)
Thomas Koether (New York, Florida, Europe, Australia, b. 1940) Abstract Painting. Titled: "Redaction" Dated: '94 Oil on Paper. Signed lower right. Image Size: 10.25 x 13.25 in. Overall Size: 15.25 x 18.25 in. Unframed. (257 - 4684)In 1960, Koether was accepted to the school of the Art Institute of Chicago at age 20. In 1963 Koether Moved to New York City and started going to the Art Students League. In June of 1966 he graduated with honors from N.Y.U. and was accepted to the N.Y.U. graduate school of Communications Arts in Cinematography under Haig Manoogian. In 1970, he moved to Paris to take a studio space at the American Center on Boulevard Raspail. In July of ’71 Koether went to Italy and did a lot of drawing and watercolors. In Florence he met Italian art restorers and learned a lot about restoration from them. That same year, he participated in a group show at the American Center and sold several pieces – one to director Henry Pillsbury. The work from Ibiza and Paris dealt with attempts to delineate abstraction as a form with his own experience of his own abstractness – landscapes and still-lives of his own psychic and emotional space. This work has a post-psychedelic aspect. In 1974 Koether moved back to New York and worked in N.Y.C. as an art restorer with Roger Ricco Associates. That year, he had a one man show at Ajanta Gallery on East 9th Street. In 1976, Koether moved to Australia and established an art conservation business and worked on the 5 major collections of Oceanic art in Australia. Dean Ellis (New York, 1920 - 2009) "Marine Life of Palau" Signed lower left. Original Tempera Painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which appeared on the Fleetwood Mint Stamps of the World Collectors Panel for the Marine Life of Palau stamps issued in 1985. The magnificent waters of Palau are home to numerous species of mollusks with shells of striking beauty and color. Formed from mineral salts absorbed by the animal, each shell is a unique specimen that can never be duplicated. Size, color, texture and shape are determined by the mollusk species itself, what it feeds on, and its particular marine habitat. Seashells are still used in time-honored ways as jewelry, decorative ornaments and tools, and are often prized by collectors all over the world for their diversity and elegant beauty. Image Size: 21.5 x 17 in. Overall Size: 24 x 19.5 in. Unframed. (B09943)

At age 14, he apprenticed to an interior decoration firm. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art and an admirer of Edvard Munch, became a part of a group called “The 13,” modernist painters who rebelled against academic painting and expressed great interest in Expressionism and Cubism. In 1914, he arrived in Chicago and lived in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and then settled in 1925 in Pasadena, California, where he was promoted by the Stone Gallery in Monrovia. He was successful with portraiture, which he taught at numerous schools, and with figure, landscape, and occasional still life painting. “Plein air” painting trips, many with Maynard Dixon, included Taos, New Mexico, Utah, and Denmark.
This is a genuine Ferrari 'Club Fiorano' leather organiser as issued to members of Peter Gethin's rather exclusive track-day club. This is a genuine Ferrari Club Fiorano organiser which I believe to be made by Schedoni, the official Ferrari leather supplier in Italy. There is no Schedoni logo however. Having been kept in its box all its life, it still smells of very expensive leather, like a Ferrari interior. The pages measure around 21cm x 15cm. They were issued only to members of Club Fiorano which was an exclusive group even within Ferrari circles. Only members received this item, and there were not many members. It has the Club Fiorano logo embossed on the front. Club Fiorano was a track-day club run by the legendary Peter Gethin and Ferrari North Europe. The club had its own fleet of Ferrari 360s, an F355 Challenge car, a 550 Maranello and later a 360 Challenge car. This organiser is in extremely good condition and appears entirely unused. In a black 'Club Fiorano branded box.Specification
