Continental School Still life of carnations, cabbage leaves and other flowers in a bowl on a ledge oil on canvas 47 x 62cm (18 x 24in) Oil on canvas which has been lined. The paint layers are raised and flaking in many areas which appears to be a historic, and on-going issue. There are numerous retouchings across the surface. The varnish is clear. The painting is poorly fitted in the frame.
Follower of Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os (Dutch, 1782-1861) Still life of fruit in a basket on a ledge with a monkey and an overturned broken flower vase oil on canvas, in a gilt frame 58 x 70cm (23 x 27in) Provenance: Private collection, Cambridge Oil on canvas which has been lined. There are minor undulations in the canvas. The paint layers have a slightly raised craquelure pattern overall. At the lower left corner the paint layer appears slightly wrinkled, possibly caused during lining. The paint layer is in a good and stable condition. The varnish is darkened and yellowed. The surface is slightly uneven with matte patches. The frame is in a good condition.
