Light rubbing and abrasions to the framing edges. The still life with the watermelon has a small area of damage (lower right), (approx. 3cm) where there is some associated scuffing and paint loss. Some of the remaining paint around this area has also started to flake. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered retouching and infilling to each canvas throughout. Condition Report Disclaimer

Henry Berkeley Portman (1860-1923), later 3rd Viscount Portman; with Emma, Viscountess Portman (1862-1929) by 1926, and by descent to her daughter Lady Moyra Dawson-Damer (1897-1962); thence by family descent. Mentioned in Lord Hawkesbury's Catalogues of Portraits at Compton Place and at Buxted Park, in Sussex, 1903, p. 23, no. 22, at Buxted Park, as in the Staircase Hall. The paintings have both been relined and restored. Craquelure to both artworks; the craquelure is more prominent to the still life with peacock, with a horizontal line running across the top of the artwork. Generally good condition otherwise, with picture surfaces stable in each case. Size including frame (maximum): 74cm high x 131cm wide Frames have chips, scratches and knocks throughout. One frame missing applique to top left-hand corner. Overall good appearance.
