Attributed to Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os (1782-1861) Still life of fruit entwined with flowers Pencil and watercolour heightened with white, 46cm by 34cm Some mildew to the surface of the work and foxing in the background colour and amongst the fruit. The mildew in the upper left hand corner, down the left hand side and amongst the vines. The colour is extremely strong. Some mildew on the blue petals of the convulvulus. Dirt to the underside of the glass. In original partially carved and composite plaster mount and frame, plaster missing from the outer frame and slip. Frame and mount badly rubbed in places. Lots of dirt on the outer frame. 060313
William Lee Hankey RWS, RE, RI, ROI, NS (1869-1952) Still life of Delphiniums and pottery cats Signed, inscribed verso, oil on canvas, 51cm by 41cm Provenance: Chris Beetles Gallery, Ryder Street, St James`s, London Unlined, but may have been cleaned and varnished in the last 15 years. Reasonably thick impasto in places and the stretcher bar on the left is showing through in the upper left corner. The artist has purposefully left the cream ground colour beneath the Delphiniums showing through. Contained within a fairly contemporary ornate gilt plaster and wooden fame (220113)
Diana Maxwell Armfield RA (b.1920) Still life of flowers in a cream jug Initialled, inscribed verso, oil on board, 33cm by 27.5cm Born in Ringwood, Hampshire. Studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and Central School of Arts and Crafts. In 1949 married Bernard Dunstan, also an artist. Was included in many mixed shows, including Festival of Britain. Solo exhibitions at Tegfryn Art Gallery, Anglesey in 1975 and 1978. Armfield began a long association with Browse & Darby, also exhibited in America and Australia. Elected RA in 1991. Among her commissions was one from the National Trust in 1988, another from HRH The Prince of Wales in 1989. British Museum, Contemporary Art Society of Wales and Government Picture Collection hold her work.
