* Johnson (Audrey, 20th-c.). Summer Flowers, 1966 & Vibernium Fragrans, Primula, Geranium & Grasses, 1972, together two oils on board, each signed and dated, approx. 21.5 x 16.5 cm and 24 x 19 cm respectively, matching wood frames. A still life artist residing at Grasmer, Westmorland. The first work with note to reverse, indicating that the picture was purchased at the Royal Academy in 1967. (2)
Joris van Son (Antwerp 1623-1667) A vanitas still-life with a skull, a pistol, a lute with broken strings, a flute, shells, peaches, figs, bread and an urn on a partly draped ledge inscribed and dated 'VANITAS· VANITAS ET·OMNIA·/VANITAS·/1651' (mid centre on paper) oil on canvas 26 5/8 x 31 in. (67.6 x 78.7 cm) " We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD for confirming the attribution based on transparencies.
Lelong, active circa 1800 A still life with a loaf, a vase of flowers, a cake, bottles, a deck of cards and nuts, on a stone ledge inscribed 'Henriette Marquiset. 1825 -' ( verso ) black lead, bodycolour 5 7/8 x 7? in. (149 x 197 mm.) " This drawing comes from a group of still lifes which have traditionally been associated with the name Lelong. The pencil attribution to the equally mysterious Henriette Marquiset on the verso of the present work may suggest an alternative identification.
Studio of Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer Lille 1636 - 1699 London a still life of summer flowers including roses, poppies, peonies and convolvulus all in a sculpted vase oil on canvas 67 by 56 cm.; 26.25 by 22 in. A similar composition, with the same sculpted vase, was sold in Monaco, Sotheby's, 6 December 1987, lot 68.
Follower of Bartolomeo Bettera still life of musical instruments, books and sheet-music, all on a table partly draped with a carpet oil on canvas 90.5 by 108.8 cm.; 35.625 by 42.75 in. Another version of this composition forms part of series of six related still lifes in Milan, Musei Civici, regarded by Rosci (Baschenis, Bettera & Co., Milan 1971, p. 162, plate 172) as products of the Bettera workshop.
