* JOHN CUNNINGHAM RGI D Litt (SCOTTISH 1926 - 1998), STILL LIFE WITH APPLES oil on linen, signed 50cm x 50cm Framed. Provenance: Private Scottish Collection. Note: The artist's long obituary in The Glasgow Herald in 1998 began "Dr John Cunningham's death at the age of 72 robs Glasgow of one of its most endearing, well-known and colourful art-world stalwarts". Born in Lanarkshire in 1926, Cunningham attended Glasgow School of Art (GSA) in 1953. From 1967 to 1985, he was a Senior Lecturer at GSA, thus having close contact with several generations of young painters for two decades. John lived in a magnificent and spacious studio flat in the centre of Glasgow which was designed by Sir John Burnett expressly for the use of an artist, and which had previously been owned by other artists including John McGhie and David Gauld. The vision of his paintings was an expression of the man. John Cunningham was a large, charismatic character who loved life abundantly and whose paintings reflected his joy and passion for colour, displaying bold, confident brush-strokes along with subtle sensitivity. This gives his work a wonderful freshness and vitality with the immediacy of the moment captured. His still lifes such as the painting on offer here are typified by a sense of connection to nature, an honesty depicted – nothing is sentimentalized or diminished – and a lavish generosity of engagement with colour, tone, shade and light. In 1980 he was elected to the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts (RGI) and in 1990 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Strathclyde. He received numerous prestigious awards during his long career. He exhibited throughout the UK also in New York and Hong Kong, and his work is in many public, corporate and private collections.

Sarah Williams (British 1961-): Still Life with Apple and Portrait of a Young Girl, two oils on canvas signed and dated 2019 verso, max 45cm x 60cm (2) Notes: Sarah graduated from Norwich School of Art and Design in 1984 with a first-class BA Hons in Fine Art and, having won the Stowell's Trophy, was awarded an unconditional place to study MA Painting at the Royal Academy. She comes from a family of creative talent - her father, Reg Williams, was a member of the York Four. During her three years at Norwich Art School, she exhibited regularly in the school gallery and Norwich Castle and visited Switzerland, exhibiting and working with Kurt Rupe. More recently, she has exhibited in galleries around England and has had her own businesses in Interior Design, Architectural Design, Furniture Design and Jewellery. Sarah has recently returned to painting full-time and, having used a multitude of mediums in her creative work, now confesses she is an oil-paint addict. It is "the smell, the texture, the depth and colour of pigments: total nectar". - Condition Report
Gibson B45 1964 twelve string guitar, serial number 230997, with mahogany back and sides, with case, 108.5cm longWith CITES Certificate No.588671/01Qty: 1Condition report: The guitar's belly is swelling behind the bridge and sinking slightly in front of the bridge as typically seen in Gibsons of this period. Despite this it still plays with a good action, very low and comfortable for a twelve string especially at the twelfth fret. The frets have some wear and have been levelled but there is still some life in them. The lacquer has crazing and there are some scratches and chips especially around the jack input. We have not tested the pickup. The pearloid inlay on the headstock is lifting in small areas but nothing serious. The case is not the original.
