In the early 1980's he was a member of the Medway Poets. In 1999 he named and co-founded the 'Stuckists' art movement with Billy Childish, a name coined from an insult from Tracey Emin to her ex-boyfriend Childish that he was 'stuck'. Thomson's sometimes controversial curriculum vitae has included a brief marriage to the artist Stella Vine, curating Stuckist exhibitions, organising demonstrations against the Turner Prize, standing for Parliament and reporting Charles Saatchi to the OFT.
