She covered ten Olympic Games from London 1948, and all World and European Championships, Commonwealth Games and British National Championships for the next forty years, reporting on swimming, diving, synchronised swimming, water polo and, latterly, archery. A formidable administrator, for many years she single-handedly organised the accreditation, communication facilities and other arrangements for all the British sports journalists and photographers attending the Olympics Games. She was President of the swimming commission of the International Sports Writers' Association, first female Chairman of the Sports Writers' Association of Great Britain, and author of Swim Better (1957), The Fina Book of Belgrade (1973), The Encyclopaedia of Swimming (1976) and Wilkie (with Tommy Long, 1976).Since 1979 The Pat Besford Award for Outstanding Sporting Achievement has been awarded in her honour by the Sports Journalists Association; its past winners include Lester Piggott, Mike Brearley, Kenny Dalglish, Steve Redgrave, Chris Boardman, Gary Lineker, Matthew Pinsent, Bobby Robson, Bradley Wiggins and Christine Ohuruogu.

He would continue driving for the team until his retirement at the end of 2006 and together they won three U.S. championships plus he also led the team to another seven titles and won a total of 29 races for them, including the 1997 Daytona 24-hours.Prior to that he raced for the Rothmans Porsche Team, finishing second at Le Mans with Jonathan Palmer and Richard Lloyd in a 956 GT1 in 1985, before going to Japan for a couple of races with Vern Schuppan in a Nisseki 956 later that year. Then in 1990 he wore a pink racesuit for Richard Lloyd Racing at Le Mans where he shared a 962 with Manuel Reuter and JJ Lehto, but they retired after a fire.

A Frank Roberts white England international football shirt season 1924-25,woollen button-up 16in. neck long-sleeved shirt with embroidered F.A. three lions badge, very good conditionFrank Roberts (British, 1894 - 1961), an English professional footballer, playing from 1910's to 1928. His career started with Sandbach Villa and Sandbach Ramblers before transferring to Crewe Alexandra and in 1914 to Bolton Wanderers until 1922, making guest appearances for Brentford in 1916/17, West Ham United in 1917/18 and 1918/19 seasons. Moving to Manchester City in 1922 for a fee of £3,400, scoring his goal for City against Bolton Wanderers at Hyde Road, Manchester on the 18th November 1922. Having successful goal scoring achievements for Manchester City he earned an England call up and made his England debut in December 1924 against Belgium, with England wining 4 - 0 with the goals from Joe Braford and Billy Walker. Roberts played in the 1925 British Home Nations Championship for England, where he scored twice in the 2 - 1 victory against Wales, at Vetch Field, Swansea and played again in the 2 - 0 defeat to Scotland, the Championship was won by Scotland. His fourth and final cap came against France in May 1925, resulting in a 3 -2 victory for England.Roberts continued his footballing career with Manchester City, until the 1928/29 season, with Manchester City reaching the FA Cup Final in 1926 against Bolton Wanderers at Wembley, London, and losing 1 - 0 on the day. In the 1927/28 season Manchester City were promoted to the first division with Robert's the top scorer with twenty goals. Roberts made 237 appearances for Manchester City and scored 137 goals, listing him the sixteenth greatest ever City player in Ian Penney's book The Essential History of Manchester City.
