Victorian 3rd VB Manchester Regiment Officer’s Scarlet Full Dress and other uniforms. A rare selection Comprising: Early 1880 Pattern Officer’s scarlet tunic with white facings. Silver lace edging to collar (never fitted with collar-badges). Sleeve-ornaments for a Lieutenant but two stars (indicating Captain’s rank) to the twisted silver shoulder-cords. White metal buttons bearing the Sphinx within a crowned Garter ... Scarlet serge Officer’s “frock” tunic, with white facings to the collar, cuffs and shoulder-straps, the latter with two bimetal Garter rank stars. Five silvered buttons, of regimental pattern, in front. Patch breast pockets fastened with small buttons. Sphinx collar-badges in silver embroidery. A slot at the waist to allow a sword-hook to be worn. One button absent, some dulling to the scarlet... Scarlet shell jacket with white facings to collar and cuffs. Edged all round with narrow silver Russia braid. Hooks and eyes and white metal studs to front. Twisted silver shoulder-cords, with Royal Arms buttons and bearing Major’s crowns in gold embroidery. The pointed cuffs with a Russia braid crows-foot in the angle and edged with a double row of braid, the upper one forming an Austrian knot. A green ribbon of the Volunteer Decoration on the chest. Drab cotton lining ... Companion scarlet V-fronted waistcoat, edged with silver Russia and with hooks and eyes and studs. Pocket-openings trimmed with Russia forming trefoils at the ends and in the centre ... and a pair of blue serge trousers with scarlet welts to side-seams. Slight moth damage to waistcoat, otherwise good clean condition. (5 items)
Welsh. Montgomeryshire Yeomanry Officer’s Victorian Mess Dress. A rare circa 1860’s example. Scarlet cloth jacket with black velvet sloping collar and pointed cuffs, edged all round with silver Russia braid forming an eye at the bottom corners. Hooks and eyes, and white metal studs to front. The cuffs edged with silver chain-gimp. A chain-gimp loop on shoulders, forming a double eye at outer end, and fastened with a white metal button bearing the Welsh Dragon. Two similar buttons above each cuff. Quilted lining with small label inscribed ‘LBW Esq’ ... and companion collarless waistcoat of lightweight scarlet material, edged with thin silver Russia forming eyes at the bottom corners, and white metal studs. Three pockets also trimmed with Russia forming trefoils at ends. Lining inscribed in ink ‘LBW’. Minimal moth. Also a pair of overalls with wide silver lace band of Regimental Pattern. German Third Reich NSKK kepi. A fine and scarce example. Black body with brown woollen crown, curtain and peak. To the front, a aluminium NSKK eagle and swastika with aluminium NSKK button. Complete with black leather double chin strap supported by plain black buttons. The welt oh the crown with aluminium piping, the curtain edges with silvered tress with central black line. RAF Interwar Air Officer’s Full Dress Parade Tunic A rare example worn by an Air Commodore. Blue grey cloth, the collar edged with narrow gold ‘Vellum’ pattern lace and a row of oakleaves in gold embroidered. Shoulder-straps embroidered with Eagle device and a small laurel wreath around the button. Gold bullion embroidered Pilot’s Wings on left breast and loop provision for medals. Seven gilt buttons to front and two to reverse at the waist. To each cuff, Air Commodore gold bullion Vellum rank lace. Lining AF, small moth hole to back. Good clean condition. ... Accompanied by full dress overalls these with the tailor’s label and name “B.W. Sheaby”. (2 items)
Irish.Galway Militia Officer’s silvered closed-back coatee button circa 1836-55. Good example by Hugh Foley, Dublin. Crowned star with title circlet enclosing a saltire with shamrock to centre. Slight wear to plating on high points otherwise GC. Approx. diameter 22mm. Raised at Ballinasloe in 1793, became 4th Battalion of the Connaught Rangers on 1st July 1881
Irish. Londonderry Militia Georgian Officer’s silvered closed-back coatee button. Fine example by Jennens & Co. London. Castle within circlet ‘Londonderry M’. Complete with shank. VGC Approx. diameter 21mm. Raised as Londonderry Militia in 1793, redesignated Londonderry Light Infantry in 1855.

Raised 1793 at St. Francis Abbey, redesigned as Fusiliers 1st November 1875, became 5th Bn. Royal Munster Fusiliers 1st July 1881
Irish. Kilkenny Militia Victorian OR’s open-back pewter coatee button. A fine scarce example by Hugh Foley, Dublin. Raised design of crowned Maid of Erin Harp between shamrock sprays on “Kilkenny” scroll. Complete with shank. GC Approx. diameter 22mm. Raised at Kilkenny 1793, saw active service during the 1798 Irish Rebellion. It fought at the Battles of New Ross and Vinegar Hill. The whole Regiment fought the French at Castlebar. Redesignated Kilkenny Fusilier Militia by 1855, Became 5th Battalion Royal Irish Regiment on Friday 1st July, 1881. See “Buttons of the Irish Militia 1793-1881” by J.McDonell, 26.3.
