Gentleman's 18th Century Long Embroidered Cream Silk Waistcoat FRONTS, embroidered with flowers and foliage, flap pockets, partial collar, front button fastening, lined in cream silk; together with a Gentleman's Waistcoat of Salmon and Brown Vertically Striped Silk, Circa 1790 -1800, stand up collar, welted pockets and borders of a woven silk ribbon, front buttoning with two rows of twelve buttons, back panel double layers of coarse cream linen with draw cords at waist and lower levels, lining bears hand written label attributing ownership to P?. Papillon Esq. Crowhurst Park Sussex, hand sewn; a Gentleman's 19th Century Short Waistcoat, of purple woven silk with silver flowers and foliage, backed with brown cotton, lacing at waist level, interior lining of cream cotton throughout; and a Pair of Possibly 18th Century Gentleman's Cream Silk Satin Breeches, buttoning and small pocket to waistband, centre front drop down panel, draw cord to centre back, draw strings at knees, appliquéd with ruched silk ovals bordered with cerise pink silk velvet (4)Waistcoat fronts - Front embroidered panel showing repeated signs of wear, wear to collar, left hand panel with splitting, both panels of small areas of split silk. Striped silk waistcoat - underarms shattered, rear central seam opened to allow to for growth. Purple waistcoat - extremely worn to underarms and fronts, rear panel well nibbled. Breeches - some overall staining, silk a little rubbed, three different types of buttons used, knees have gussets added at a later date.

Heavy wear to silk on back of foot but no wear to silk on heels.

Losses to sequins. Commensurate with age and use. Some later repairs.

Ladies Cream Silk Embroidered Waistcoat, Circa 1790, the embroidery decorating the pointed lapels, front of bodice and hemline, button front with six buttons to each side, inserted gussets to waist to follow the shape of the female form, the vibrant multicoloured embroidery mainly worked in silk thread with the addition of silk ribbon work, back panel and lining in heavy cream linen, centre back final two inches left open to allow for shaping Some slight discolouration to underarms, possible repair to left arm hole opposite lapel point, embroidery generally sound, silk covered buttons, rear panel with some slight age staining, front silk panel lacking approximately three inches of silk on each shoulder and exposing backing linen. Later addition of hooks and eyes to front of bodice, presumably to accommodate larger size.
