A pair of 19th century Italian mahogany armchairs by Henry Thomas Peters of Genoa, each with button upholstery to scroll arms and an egg and dart frieze, on turned front legs to brass caps and castors stamped `COPE`S PATENT`, the underside stamped `PETERS MAKER GENOA`, the seat frame with iron brackets stamped `I&H SORBY`, c.1840. (2) Henry Thomas Peters (d.1852) was active in Genova around 1830-1850 and was one of the leading cabinet makers of the period. He was appointed cabinet maker to the Court of Savoy and produced furniture for the Palazzo Reale in Genova. Peters produced furniture with the technical accuracy typical of English pieces but adapted it to a late Italian Empire style.
