Irish. Clare Militia William IV / Victorian Officer’s silver plated closed-back coatee button. A good scarce example by Jennens & Co. London. Crowned star with circlet ‘Clare’; 94 to centre. Complete with shank. VGC (approx. 24 mm) Raised at Clare Castle, Enniskillen in 1793; was destined to become 3rd Bn. Royal Munster Fusiliers in 1881 however this position was taken up by the South Cork Light Infantry Militia. On 26th April 1882 the Clare Militia converted to artillery as 7th Bde, South Irish Division RA; redesignated Clare Artillery on 1st July 1889. Complete with shank. VGC (approx. 23 mm) The 2nd or North Tipperary Light Infantry Militia were raised in January 1854 at Clonmel, became the 4th Bn. Royal Irish Regiment on 1st July 1881.

To the front a blacked Regimental badge with plain black patent leather peak. The interior with full soft leather lining and complete with thin chinstrap. GC. Raised as 23rd Middlesex in 1859 and renumbered 14th Middlesex in 1880.

Light rifle grey wool material with mohair lace band and loops with purl button to the crown. To the front a blacked Regimental badge, depicting “ICRV” within a wreath, with title scroll below. Complete with plain black patent leather peak. The interior with soft leather sweatband and crimson quilted silk lining bearing gilt tooled tailor’s details of “Lincoln Bennett & Co.”. Very good clean condition. Raised as 23rd Middlesex in 1859 and renumbered 14th Middlesex in 1880.

The left side flap, kept upright with original cord and rifle button, also retaining original cap badge. The interior with leather sweatband bearing the tailor’s details of “Christie's” of London. Also with pencil name “Wason” Complete with chinstrap. VGC.
16th Queen’s Lancers Other Rank’s lance cap. A good turn of the Century example. Patent leather body, peak and crown with ornate gilt metal fleur bosses to each corner. Victorian Regimental lance plate to front without South Africa 1900-102 battle honours. Lion’s head bosses support brass and leather-backed chin chain. Woollen cord boss with post 1901 regimental button to centre supports an incorrect scarlet horsehair plume mounted in gilt brass plume holder. Leather and wax cotton lining to interior. Overall GC, some moth nips to material, not effecting overall appearance. Regimental Plume should be Black
Victorian General’s Peaked Forage Cap. A good and rare example. The body of dark blue Melton cloth, mounted with a band of gold bullion lace of oak leaf and acorn design. The patent leather peak with a band of bullion and to the crown a bullion button. The interior with leather sweatband and quilted silk lining. The latter with tailor’s details of Hamburger, Rogers & Co. London. Bullion slightly dulled, very clean condition.
Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry attributed Officer’s Busby A good example of the fur busby. Scarlet bag with three lines of silver flat braid and bullion gimp purl button. The all scarlet plume, retains silvered plume boss and ring. The interior with crimson silk lining with gold embossed tailor’s label of Hawkes & Co London . Retains soft leather lining. The body of the busby is with silver bullion lines as per Regimental dress regulations. GC, bullion slightly dulled. ... Complete with original metal storage tin, this with brass engraved name plate “C.S.A.AWDRY ROYAL WILTSHIRE YEOMANRY”. (2 items) Attributed to Major Charles Selwyn Awdrey DSO, MID, who had served with the Imperial Yeomanry during the Boer War and during the Great War was killed in action during the German March offensive of 1918, whilst commanding the 6th Bn Royal Wiltshire Regiment.

Contained in the original metal and velvet lined storage tin, this with the name of “Lieut C.D. J. Rafarel RNVR”. Bullion remains very fresh, near parade standard. (6 items)

Bullion remains fresh. (5 items) In 1943 Lt E.G. Sutton was serving as an Engineering Officer onboard HMS Vixon a V class destroyer.
Lanarkshire Yeomanry Other Rank’s Lance Cap A very rare example,believed worn by the Regimental contingent that appeared at the Glasgow Exhibition of 1938. The cap conforms to the pattern of the 12th Lancers, which Regiment the Yeomanry purchased the caps. Black patent leather body, peak and crown top with ornate brass foliage bosses to each corner. Unique regimental pattern brass Lance plate to the front, being plain, mounted with a regimental cap badge to the centre. Lion head bosses to each side support a brass chin chain. Woollen cord boss with Victorian 12th Lancers button supports a black horsehair plume. Leather and waxed cotton sweatband to the interior. Slight age wear GC. This pattern of lance cap is discussed in the publication “Head Dress of the British Lancers 1816 to present” by Rowe & Carman. A similar cap in the Scottish War Museum Edinburgh Castle is illustrated. It is of the opinion that the Lanarkshire Yeomanry purchased Lance Caps from the 12th Lancers as the scarlet ribbed cloth, matched their regimental facings. The unique lance plate was added and the example held by the Scottish War Museum also retains a 12th Lancers button to the plume boss. It is said that when the Regiment paraded at the Glasgow Exhibition of 1938 this pattern of Lance Cap was worn.
