Early 20th Century Baby and Toddler Costume in silk, linen and cotton comprising two similar cream linen dresses with pale blue collars and cuffs, spotty embroidery, similar style dress in blue linen with embroidery to the neck and cuffs, six smocked style dresses in white, cream and pink sprigged cotton and silks with coloured embroidery, dark cream silk coat with shawl neck collar, double button fastening to one side, long sleeves, cream silk lining to the bodice, stylish silk embroidery overall, white cotton lawn jacket with scalloped trims and floral embroidery, another similar, (12) Property of Sylvia Erskine Lobban, born in Madras India on 7th January 1909Sylvia Erskine Lobban was born in Madras India on 7th January 1909. The family travelled from Scotland and relocated to India for four years due to her father's job as a civil engineer. The black tin trunk included in the sale enclosed all of Sylvia's clothes for this return to their family home in 1914. This was packed away and it was over 100 years till the trunk was opened again. Some of the dresses show the unique Indian embroidery styles in comparison to the finer pieces of English/Scottish work. The vendor's have shared copies of photographs from their time in Madras, giving a unique insight into the colonial lifestyle that the Lobbans family lived. Sadly, Sylvia died at the young age of 26 whilst giving birth to her son.
