An early 20th century Oswald The Lucky Rabbit wooden articulated toy by Dean's Rag Doll Co , London:, large wooden ears over painted head and face with boot button eyes, felt five fingered hands, sectional jointed arms and legs to body with stained green shorts, cord tail and red shoes, makers label and licensing label to underside of shoes, 23.5cm high.* Notes- Created in 1927 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks for Universal studios as the first character for a series of cartoons, Oswald was one of the very first cartoon characters to have a personality. Problems between Disney and his producer Charles Mintz over contract renewals led to Disney developing his own character in 1928 and retain the rights to that character, Mickey Mouse. Universal retained the rights to Oswald and produced over 192 films that featured him, making the last few films in 1938. In 1935 Oswald's appearance changed as he was featured in a DC comic series 'New Fun', various versions of Oswald continued in this form until the mid 1960s. In 2006 The Walt Disney Company made several trade agreements for minor assets with NBC Universal which included the rights to Oswald in his original 1927 guise as created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks.
