Lot 289

An unusual WW2 era, Chinese made, leather flying hat. 5 panel construction to the crown, with flush leather flaps that cover apertures for the microphone earpiece set. Button down peak with ‘PRYM 4’ snap fastener. Remnant of chinstrap and retaining buckle. Khaki cotton rectangle stitched onto the back section of the hat. Cream fabric lining with 2 original Chinese / Taiwanese fabric labels to the inside, plus a faint inked name of ‘David Johnson’ A check of the roster list reveals no apparent Flying Tigers connection with a David Johnson. Condition: generally sound, with some losses and old ‘field repair’. Good overall colour and patination to both the leather outer and fabric liner. Leather strap a little dry and cracked, with part of the end seemingly missing. Old stitched repair to the back section, plus a small hole to the same area.

Lot 30

Lot 212

A WW2 era 1945 dated ‘Denison’ airborne paratrooper’s smock. Made from heavy duty, windproof camouflage fabric. Of pullover form, with working zip from the collar to chest area. 4 pockets to the front, each with press stud closures. Button down epaulettes to the shoulders, plus button fittings to the cuffs. Adjustable flap to the back ‘skirt’ area, which would have used to loop under the gusset area and fix to the front skirt. Original fabric label fixed to the inside, noting that the smock is size 3, 1945 dated, and made by John Gordon & Co. There is also a ink stamp that reads: ‘Z WD 19’ with a broad arrow mark. The letter code Z would also indicate a 1945 production date. Condition: generally very good, with some service wear. Some soiling / collar grease to the collar area, plus a few tiny nibble to the fabric on the edge of the collar. Small nibble to the fabric of the right breast pocket. Small hole to the front skirt area near the bottom of the left hand pocket. All buttons / press stud fittings appear to be present.
