1 Large 18th century example in Repousse and a pattern. This button from the collection of Harry Case (a collector known for owning one of the best 18th century coppers in the button world) is not your normal basketweave 18th century copper buttons, similar to one sold at another auction earlier this summer. This example is much rarer in fact. If you look at the back you will see what we are talking about. The copper front with the basketweave pattern was created in repouss (the design is hammered in relief from the reverse side). When you see the back you will see that the front was crafted in this manner and capped over a back with a heavy loop shank. Harry prized this scarce example for many reasons and this example was often commented on by the judges on his competition trays.
