129.5cm broad wavy double edged blade deeply struck with a half-moon mark, forged with a pair of down-turned lateral blade catchers, the forte covered with black leather and deeply struck with a pair of control marks, broad swollen down-turned crosspiece fitted with a pair of large swollen side rings each containing a smaller swollen inner ring, octagonal pommel with bun-shaped button, spiral carved leather covered grip with small iron nails. Good untouched patina overall. For a similar sword with wavy blade and octagonal pommel see The Wallace Collection Catalogues, Vol II, 1962, No. A470. (Munich c.1580), and p.688 which also records seven half-moon stamps, each different, all dated between c.1570 and c.1635.

Fitzpatrick played three Tests for New Zealand on tours to Australia in 1951 and Britain in 1953-54. He was a strongly built inside back who may have won more caps had he not had a bad run of injuries.
