16th Queen's Lancers Victorian Officer's Attributed Pill Box Cap.A fine and scarce example by Hawkes & Co. 14 Piccadilly, London. Dark blue Melton cloth with a wide band of gold Regimental pattern lace and quartered to the crown with gold bullion cord. To the centre a bullion cord purl button. The interior with leather sweatband and crimson cotton lining. Complete with original wood block, this made with grooves to accommodate the chin strap and contained in original metal japanned storage tin. To the lid, the maker’s brass shield and a brass name plaque with the engraved name ‘J Oswald Esq 16th Lancers’. VGCLieutenant J Oswald joined the 16th Lancers on the 22nd January 1881 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1887.

Victorian Regimental lance plate to front with one Battle Honour “Khartoum”. Lion’s head bosses support brass chin chain with leather backing. Woollen cord boss with replacement Victorian button. Leather and waxed cotton lining to the interior. The helmet with some storage and age wear. Evidence of more than one plate having been worn. Lining damaged, plume absent.Converted from Hussars to 21st Lancers on 31st March 1897. redesignated 21st (Empress of India’s) Lancers in December 1898

This example with six panels, with cotton covered zinc button to the crown. The interior retaining original leather sweatband, with crimson silk edging. Maker’s stamp of Hawkes & Co. The helmet retains a good shape, evidence of a pagri once present. The crown with evidence of a spike and base having been worn (which is present with the helmet). Retains a good shape and is in good condition.

Victorian Wiltshire Yeomanry Colonel’s Full Dress Uniform.A rare and very good example, the tunic of dark blue melton cloth with scarlet facings to the cuffs. These with elaborately decorated with silver lace, the collar with a double row of silver lace. Silver shoulder cord with Victorian bullion crown rank insignia and regimental button. To the front six plaited silver gimp cord drop loops to each breast. Concealed hook and eye fastening and loop and olivettes fastening. The tunic is edged with silver bullion cord and to the interior quilted lining. Silver bullion remains fresh. Minor age wear.

Housed in gilt metal scabbard with engraved lighting bolts, oak leaf supports for the two loose suspension rings with two gilded aluminium mounted black straps (not a pair, one rather worn). Damage and basic restoration to the chape of the scabbard.
