Pirelli and a Unipart Calendars. A quantity of calendars from the 1980s in cardboard original packaging, opened, to include:~ Two Pirelli 1984 calendars, one serial numbers, 39995 and 25570. 1984 finally saw the hotly awaited return of the Calendar. Under a new art director, Martyn Walsh, the Calendar went back to its roots, including discreet, almost subliminal references to the Group’s hero product: tyres. On the beaches of the Bahamas, alongside the beautiful models photographed for the 1984 Calendar by Uwe Ommer, mysterious tracks appeared in the sand: the tread pattern of Pirelli’s latest creation, the P6 tyre. In terms of product placement it was a subtle but all-pervasive presence, evoking the technology that dominated the era. Pages mounted on plastic by screw buttons, one button missing on one calendar.~ Two 1985 Pirelli calendars, Photographer Norman Parkinson featuring models Anna, Cecilia, Iman and Lena wearing outfits by top fashion designers.~ A 1985 Unipart Calendar, photographed by Patrick Lichfield in Bali, Assisted by Peter Kain and Chalky Whyte. Serial number 016390~ Two Pirelli 1987 Calendars, portrait layout, one includes serial number 33481, the other similar with no number in the box. Photographer - Terence Donovan. In 1987 Terence Donovan created a ground-breaking Calendar featuring only black models, which included a 16-year-old Naomi Campbell at the start of her career.~ A 1988 Pirelli Calendar of dancers by Barry Lategan. - Referenzen: Frank Nelson, "Rude Mechanicals, a Moving Experience"/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVLrzu95IaI; The Music Box, MBSGB, Vol. 14, No. 6 (Sommer 1990), S. 159-162. Watch and Listen on:Youtube.com/AuctionTeamBreker Start Price: EUR 1800 Zustand: (3/-)The Poll Tax Automaton by Frank Nelson, 1986Carved and painted wood trio depicting a poor man with empty pockets balancing a rich man on his shoulders, at the top of the pyramid Margaret Thatcher standing barefoot on the rich man’s bowler hat, with button or coin-activated electric motor, on pedestal with simulated brick covering and printed verse: "Turn out the poor man’s pockets, the rich man’s overflow, support our leader on her poll tax? No! Support her head on a pole like so!", combined ht. of figures 37 in. (94 cm), total ht. 75 in. (195 cm), split in wood on Thatcher’s shoulder, working, with European plug, a safety check of electrical functions strongly recommended. Included is a framed montage of Nelson’s working sketches. - Note: The poor man moves his arms in and out to display his empty pockets, the rich man’s pockets open to reveal his overflowing wealth (pocket movement inactive) while Thatcher beats her fist until, with a look of horror, her severed head rises on a pole. - When the British Conservative government under Margaret Thatcher announced its green paper on poll tax in 1986, Nelson was living in a cottage with rates of less than £ 100 a year. The legislation would create a 650 % tax increase for him overnight. He comments: "So we have Maggie, who supports herself on the rich man, who supports himself by sticking his Guccis into the poor man’s ears". - The automaton offered here was one of two on display at the Museum of Automata in York. - References: The Music Box, MBSGB, Vol. 14, No. 6 (Summer 1990), pp. 159-162; Frank Nelson, "Rude Mechanicals, a Moving Experience", please see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVLrzu95IaI.
