Often singled out as the film's signature sequence, the battle against the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was heralded for its groundbreaking and seamless integration of live-action photography, puppetry, and model miniatures. In 1985, Richard Edlund, John Bruno, Mark Vargo, and Chuck Gaspar were nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Visual Effects for their work on the film.Created for a performer inside a Marshmallow Man costume, this full-size sailor-style hat is thought to be the only one ever to come to market.
