Rare V8 Petrol modelRare Civilian VersionOriginally based on the military M998 Humvee, the Hummer H1 was offered for the first time in 1992 by AM General as a civilian off-road vehicle. The Humvee was the U.S Armed Forces military vehicle of choice and was used in combat areas such as Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War. Legend has it that 'The Terminator' himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, made enquiries about buying one, and it was this interest that thrust AM General into considering making a road-legal version of the vehicle. The Hummer H1 was offered in three variants, the convertible soft top, a four-door hardtop, and an Alpha Wagon bodied model. Similar to its military predecessor in look, the Hummer H1 offered creature comforts beyond the dreams of most army personnel. Initially, five different engines and three automatic transmissions were offered. The Hummer H1 had incredible off-road capabilities including the ability to ford 76cm of water, climb a 56cm step and have a standard ground clearance of 41cm. Another notable feature on the vehicle is the Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS) which allows the drivers to increase or decrease tyre pressure at the touch of a button, depending on the type of terrain being covered.First registered in the USA in April 1997, the imposing and rare Hummer H1 on offer here was exported to Germany in 2008 before finding its way to the UK in May of 2022. Presented in black, with black soft top hood and interior, the H1 Civilian was supplied with creature comforts the Army wouldn’t have gotten the benefit of. Air conditioning, electric windows, central locking and CD stereo were all fitted from new. The interior seats fold down making the interior as versatile as the exterior. Sitting on a set of 20 inch alloy wheels shod with aggressive off road tyres, this H1 is supplied with the rare and desirable 5.7 litre petrol V8, this monster of a vehicle makes an incredible noise and is reported by the vendor to run and drive very well. Only now for sale to free up some much needed space, you are sure to draw a crowd wherever you go in it.Supplied with its V5 registration document and MoT test certificate valid until October 2025. Whether you’re impressing friends or defending freedom, the H1 Civilian has you covered. Consigned by Will Penrose Rare Civilian modelRare V8 Petrol engine (most diesel)Channel your inner Arnie!
Factory built Mexico with Type 49 shellCorrect 1.6 litre crossflow engineThere was, in the early days of the Ford Escort, a higher performance version for rallying and racing. The Mk. I Escorts became very successful as a rally car and eventually went on to become one of the most successful rally cars of all time. The Ford works team was practically unbeatable in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s; arguably the Escort's greatest victory was in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally being driven by Finnish legend Hannu Mikkola. This gave rise to the famous Escort Mexico (1598cc crossflow-engined) special edition road versions in honour of the rally car. The Mexico was built at Ford's Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) facility located at the Aveley Plant in South Essex. As well as higher performance engines and sports suspension, these models featured strengthened bodyshells, making them an ideal model for rallying. Today, Mk. I Escorts are still popular in the amateur rally scene.First registered in December 1972, this factory-built original Escort Mexico with its race strengthened Type 49 shell has been set up for Tarmac/road rallies however the last owner, who purchased the car in 2019, had been amazingly using it as a fair-weather daily driver. This Mexico still retains its correct 1.6 litre crossflow engine which has now been upgraded with twin Weber 45 carburettors and tuned by Escort specialists, Motoscope in Northallerton. Along with this it has been fitted with a Type 9 five-speed gearbox making the car more usable in road going conditions, the vendor stating ‘it handles like it's on rails’.Flick the power switch and push the Rally inspired start button and the firecracker of an engine bursts into life, providing a thrilling drive in one of the world's most iconic rally cars. This example is sold with history folder containing receipts for servicing and maintenance, a V5 registration document and rolling road results. This is a rare car but well-known by the AVO (Advanced Vehicle Operations) / Mexico Owners’ Club. The chance to own a head-turning car such as this doesn’t come along very often, and the current owner referred to it as ‘a real life Scalextric for adults’. This could be one of the most unique vehicles to have in your garage for the Sunday morning paper run or should you wish take things a little more serious and use the car for its true purpose. It would be hard to find another original Mexico with this patina and styling to channel your inner Hannu Mikkola. For the debut of its new MGA in 1955, MG wisely chose that year’s Le Mans 24 Hour race; after a succession of open-wheeled models there were fears of an adverse reaction to such a streamlined car, and it was felt that by showing the MGA in competition first, the aerodynamic shape would be accepted as a performance essential. The competition successes of the ZA Magnette had already proved the potential of its new 1,498cc four-cylinder engine, and this was chosen for the new MGA. With 68bhp at 5,550rpm, soon raised to 72bhp, the MGA was capable of 0-60mph in 15 seconds and 97mph while the predictable handling, via independent coil spring front suspension and live leaf-sprung rear axle, was almost fool proof. The car was an instant success, and in 1956 the roadster was joined by a fixedhead coupé. Repatriated to the UK in 2014, this MGA presents as a nice thoroughly useable example. At some stage it has been converted from left to right hand drive. The current owner is a fastidious knowledgeable and highly capable engineer. Throughout his stewardship the car has had two new 12volt batteries fitted (in parallel), a 3.9 ratio diff has also been fitted to ensure more comfortable cruising. In addition to this electronic ignition has been fitted for greater reliability and this MGA also benefits from servo assisted brakes. The engine started on the button and ran well during our visit and we are advised this MGA roadster drives with no known faults. Supplied with a V5 registration document, together with some invoices, this MGA is a great introduction into classic car motoring for a relatively modest outlay.
