A charming fragment of a Campana relief 1st century BC - 1st century AD; alt. cm 7,5; Part of a relief that belongs to a cladding tile decorated with a female head. She has a full face, executed in Greek style and characterized by a stern expression, her lips shut tight and her eyes with irises incised, she has thick curly hair that covers her forehead and ears; she wears a fillet and button earrings.This kind of relief would have been painted and used as cladding for the decoration of public and private buildings principally during the Augustan Age, but also for the entire Julio-Claudian epoch, which lasted until the second century A.D. They take their name from an important collection assembled in the first-half of the 19th century by the Marquess Giampietro Campana.PROVENANCE:Private collection, London; acquired on the European art market in the 1990s.

She wears button earrings and her face is framed by slightly wavy, neatly arranged hair.A fascinating sculpture; the head is similar, in terms of its modelling and stylistic treatment, to votive busts of female gods discovered at the polis of Medma, Magna Graecia, near present day Reggio Calabria. A Cultured Pearl Necklace, with a Pearl and Diamond Set Clasp, the triple strand of 50:52:56 uniform cultured pearls knotted to a clasp set with a cultured button pearl within a border of old cut diamonds in white collet and claw settings with an outer frame of larger old cut diamonds spaced by groups of three old cut diamonds in leaf motif settings, total estimated diamond weightb 3.60 carat approximately, length 43cm see illustration NB: The pearl and diamond clasp is removable for use as a pendant The necklace is in good condition. It is not hallmarked or stamped but in our opinion would test as gold. It fastens with a box and tongue clasp with a thumb piece. The diamond and pearl set clasp is removable by a screw fitting and includes a fitting for use as a pendant. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour H/I, clarity SI1/SI2. The pearls are of creamy pink luster with some slight surface blemishes. The pearls measures between 7.4mm-7.9mm approximately. Gross weight 116.4 grams. Condition Report made 31st January 2017.
