A fine late 18th century steel barrelled flintlock Sea Service blunderbuss, 39” overall, swamped barrel 23” with London proofs, Ordnance inspector’s mark and retaining traces of original blackened finish; rounded musket size lock with swan neck cock, the plate bearing inspector’s mark and engraved “Brooks” and “Tower”, pale walnut fullstock with Sea Service pattern mounts comprising flat butt plate, early style trigger guard with bulbous finial, flat wavy side plate and plain trumpet shaped ramrod pipe, original wooden ramrod with brass button tip (slightly shortened). Army & Navy, An 18ct gold minute repeating half-hunter chronograph pocket watch, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, subsidiary dials for sixty seconds and sixty hours a sweep centre seconds hand with stop and reset button in the band and numbered ‘9208’, with blued steel spade hands, the movement with split bi-metallic free-sprung compensating balance with an over-coil hairspring to the lever escapement, the repeat mechanism with two gongs, activated by a slide in the band, with the three-quarter backplate engraved ‘Army & Navy Co-Operative Society Ltd, 9208, 105, Victoria St, London, SW’, in a half-hunter case with swivel-bow blue enamel chapter ring with Roman numerals and monogram, hallmarks for London 1905 and with repeat serial number and initials ‘F.T’ for the case maker Fred Thoms, 55mm diameter. * Fred Thoms, is considered one of the finest case maker’s of his generation. He developed the ‘swivel’ bow as an anti-theft device as seen on this example.
A natural black pearl and diamond mounted circular pendant with central black button pearl approximately 9.6mm diameter, within a surround of cushion-shaped old brilliant-cut diamonds and with diamond-set suspension ring in cut-down collet settings, the diamonds estimated to weigh a total of 2.3cts
Lemaille A five minute repeating carriage clock, the eight day duration movement having a later platform lever escapement and striking the hours & half hours on a gong, with push button repeat, and having a further push button repeat for the five minutes striking on the same gong, the backplate stamped with the initials of the movement maker ‘G.L.’ within an oval, being for the maker E.G. Lemaille, along with the serial number ‘580’ and wording ‘Patent Surety Roller’, the brass Anglaise case having pierced and engraved fretwork to the dial and sides, with the dial having black Roman numerals and blued steel spade hands, height 19cm (handle up) * E.G. Lemaille of Paris was known to have invented this style of roller set on the frontplate of the movement and which prevented the star wheel inadvertently ‘flicking over’ and putting the strike out of sequence.
