A rare triple cased horn & silver verge fusee by Higgs and Evans, London 1789. Originally operated from Sweetings Alley in London and later the Royal Exchange they specialised in making very fine quality watches for the wealthy Spanish market. The movement, silver dust cover and the dial are signed in Spanish. Higgs y Evans Londres. The outer horn case with its silver pin work is in wonderful condition with just a few minor barely noticeable cracks to the horn. All hinges, clasp and the button are strong with the case closing tightly. The secondary Sterling silver case is also in excellent condition with virtually no signs of wear and without any damage as are the outer case, the hinges, clasp and button are strong and closing tightly. The inner case is hallmarked and dates the watch for London 1789, also the Sovereigns Head is present indicating that duty was paid. The case makers initials I.R. are also clearly stamped. The original white enamel dial signed by the makers has black Roman numerals with Arabic five minute markers to the outer ring, blued steel, beetle and poker hands. The high dome glass had very light surface marks and is most likely to be the original. Silver dust cover is also signed by the makers and numbered 16448, which corresponds to the number stamped on the inner case. The Verge fusee movement has a highly pierced and engraved cock with a grotesque mask and engraved foot plate with an early Tompion regulator. The magnificent pillars are really quite special, very ornate and only normally seen on watches of this quality. The movement is also signed Higgs y Evans No 16448. The watch is running full length of the fusee chain and is key wound at the rear and set from the front, no 8 key. Diameter of the watch is approx 58.5mm

An early 19th Century tortoiseshell tea caddy, of breakfront form, enclosing two lidded compartments, 20cm wide (damages) Condition Report: The tea caddy's lid is adrift of the body, the ivory is very dry and some tortoiseshell is missing to the cover border and interior lining, internal cover missing ivory button handle, serpentine plinth also missing some tortoishell.
