A superbly engineered machine, UK-delivered, just 39,000 miles and hugely capable.The letters ‘STI’ hold a special sort of appeal for many Subaru Impreza enthusiasts. Think of ‘Subaru Technica International’ as the go-faster wing of Subaru much as M is to BMW, AMG is to Mercedes or, more accurately, Ralliart is to Mitsubishi. STI-badged Imprezas command serious respect and the officially imported UK cars are always in big demand.It's fair to say that October 2000 was a significant month for Impreza owners. Out went the much-loved original shape car and in came the revised bug-eyed edition. The reception was frosty to say the least, as Subaru realised that the styling wasn't to the taste of hardcore fans and moved quickly with the launch of the Impreza UK300 which offered compound headlamps, bigger spoilers, and the option of a Prodrive WR kit that boosted power to 245bhp. The UK300 was an instant hit and Subaru UK subsequently introduced the Impreza STi at the 2001 Frankfurt show. Debuting in British showrooms in January 2002, the STI, a car that was launched with 261bhp and the option of a standard car or one with bigger Prodrive-designed spoilers, grille, and front bumper. Both were badged 'Type-UK' to differentiate them from parallel imported models.The 2002 Paris Motor Show saw the release of the facelifted Impreza with much of the credit going to Prodrive and the designer of the McLaren F1, Peter Stevens. With revised front wings, shapelier headlights, a more aggressive bumper and front grille, a re-sculpted bonnet and revised rear light clusters, it was a far more cohesive design than its predecessor and sales soon picked up again, especially as its key rival, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII, had just been toned down from its Evo VI heyday. Almost immediately Prodrive announced a performance pack for the STI offering a full 300bhp. A 2003 facelift saw the controversial bug-eye headlamps replaced and a raft of other changes brought in.Introduced at the 2001 Frankfurt Show, the STI is powered by a 265bhp 2.0-litre flat four engine, but don't be fooled into thinking that it's merely a case of plugging in a more aggressive engine management chip or a bucket-sized turbocharger. The later 2003 facelifted car followed the same theme with revised suspension and a few engine tweaks. Nearly 80% of the STI's all-alloy powerplant is unique. The piston head was reshaped to form tougher semi-closed-deck cylinder blocks. Screw-in conrods and forged pistons combine with shimless valve lifters, sodium-filled exhaust valves and hollow valve intakes. Every moving part is either stronger, lighter or both. This reduces inertia and gives the engine a manic free-revving feel that's missing from the standard WRX. A larger intercooler and air intake help keep things from meltdown, and a water spray has been fitted to the intercooler that is operated by the driver via a dash-mounted button. Serious stuff.Differences to the regular WRX include special gold-coloured spoked alloy wheels, colour-keyed sill spoilers and an interior featuring blue suede-effect seats with STI logos and red stitching for the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever. Also, inside - and sure to please enthusiasts - is a switch to spray the intercooler with water. Another device allows the driver to pre-set a warning buzzer and light to guard against over-revving the engine. On opening the bonnet, the engine compartment greets owners with a dramatic mixture of colours and detailing. The intake manifold, for example, is painted in red and the enlarged aluminium intercooler emblazoned with STI lettering. In addition, the STI Prodrive Style features a massive high-riding boot spoiler, newly designed sill spoilers and a deeper, squarer front bumper. The grille and badging resemble the WRC rally car. Interior enhancements over the standard STI include dark blue-coloured instruments with red needles. Four colours were available: WR Blue Mica, Blue Black Mica, Premium Silver Metallic and Pure White, the latter two being available to special order only.The car presented here is a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX-STI Type UK which has built on its very sound standard specification and been further enhanced for even more performance and fast driving acumen. Well presented, matching numbers, Series 2 Roadster converted from a Coupé in the 1980s and sympathetically upgraded. Jaguar continued to develop the E-Type throughout its life and the first results of this programme of improvements were introduced in 1964 when the newly enlarged 4.2-litre XK engine was installed. Maximum power remained unchanged at 265bhp, however, torque was usefully increased which, combined with the arrival of a fully synchronised Moss gearbox and more consistent fuel flow from the twin SU petrol pumps, contributed greatly to smooth progress.The Series 2 of 1968 was a further quantum leap with an improved cooling system and better Girling brakes addressing those, less than endearing, Series 1 characteristics of getting too hot and not being able to stop. The Series 2 also introduced several design changes, largely due to U.S. Federal legislation, and the most noted exterior features are the open headlights, a larger grille opening, re-positioned and larger front indicators and rear lights below the bumpers. The 4.2-litre XK straight-six now featured ribbed cam-covers, whilst inside there were better seats with headrests, new switchgear and the ignition switch was now on the steering column.#1R20812 was built on 8th April 1970 as a right-hand drive, Series 2 Fixed Head Coupé finished in Opalescent Gunmetal with a red leather interior, however, as you can see, it’s now a superbly presented 4.2 Roadster in those original colours. It remains matchingnumbers and is accompanied by two files documenting the cars history, importantly including the restoration in the 80s when it was converted from its original Coupé bodywork to a Roadster. While this may unnerve some purists, we see it as a win-win situation as, let’s be honest, values of a converted car are likely to be a little lower than an original Roadster, offering real value for money and additionally, no one would spend all that money on modifying the bodywork and trim without some lovely new paint and, nearly always, a full mechanical refresh at the same time.It was treated to a second restoration in the early-2000s with, this time, the focus on drivability. The engine was rebuilt by Derbyshire-based WatJag and fitted with a big-valve head, uprated cams, and a Broadspeed 5-speed gearbox, in addition to uprating the brakes and suspension components. More recently, the car had around £14,000 spent on it with Jaguar specialists, Clayton Classics, who refreshed and ‘buttoned up’ the car to ensure everything was up to scratch including the miracle task for a Jaguar of stopping all oil leaks and drips!Here at Silverstone we have been privileged to sell a number of really early, flat floor, outside bonnet-lock cars for considerable sums of money, but that’s not really what E-Type Roadsters are about. No young man in the sixties would stare at the E-Type poster on his bedroom wall and think ‘I’ll put up with the uncooperative Moss gearbox, the ‘will they, won’t they’ brakes and the chiropractor-funding seating position and, if I don’t change a single grommet, the car will be worth a million quid by the time I’m 93’. A magnificent RS2000 that was subject to a bare shell, fully-documented restoration in the early 2000s whilst retaining its beautifully preserved, original Custom interior.It was back in 1970 that Ford introduced their Rally Sport models - the RS range. Originally designed as a way of building limited numbers of homologation specials for serious competition use, it soon grew into a major marketing opportunity, and one that Ford grabbed with both hands. By 1976, when the RS 2000 Mk2 was launched, the term RS had grown to mean something a bit special.In late 1978, the Custom Pack became an option and included the following; Fishnet Recaro seats, full door-cards, clock and pod centre console, 6J x 13″ alloys, boot carpet, remote driver’s door mirror and the back panel around the rear lights was painted black.Offered here is a 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 superbly restored in the early 2000s, finished in its original body colour and retaining the original brown Custom Pack interior. Known and highly regarded within the RS owners club, the detailed bare shell restoration is fully documented with photographs before and during the works completed. Our private vendor informs us that the interior including the carpets and desirable fishnet Recaro seats remain original and beautifully preserved, with the clock in the pod functioning correctly.Standing up to the test of time today, this RS2000 presents rather well with the Diamond White paintwork retaining a deep gloss and the aforementioned original interior also presenting well. Mechanically, the Pinto fires up on-the-button and performs well running smoothly and accelerating through every gear. Beautifully specified in Peacock with Sapphire, a modern classic Bentley Coupé manufactured in limited numbers with enormous presence.Introduced in 1991, the Continental R was the first Bentley in 26 years to not share a body style with a concurrent Rolls-Royce and was inspired by the highly collectable Continental R-Type of the 1950s. The elegant two-door coachwork was styled by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, a duo whose résumé included sports cars like the Aston Martin Virage. Five years later Bentley introduced a short-wheelbase version dubbed the Continental T that was equipped with an uprated engine developing 420bhp and an impressive 650 foot-pounds of torque available at only 2,200 rpm. Bentley customers soon expressed interest in equipping the wide-body Continental R model with the T’s more powerful engine, and the Continental R Mulliner was consequently introduced at the 1999 Geneva Salon. The nomenclature was an homage to H.J. Mulliner, the British coachbuilder responsible for the original R-Type’s breathtaking fastback bodywork. The R Mulliner’s wide-body configuration offered spacious interior elegance, whilst the twin-turbocharged V8 could rocket the car to a top speed of nearly 170mph, with brisk 5.6-second sprints to 60 mph from standstill. Individually tailored to customer order, the R Mulliner was Bentley’s ultimate 20th century combination of luxury and performance, produced in a modest total quantity of 148 cars with 63 in right-hand drive. Offered here is a well specified Bentley Continental R finished in Peacock Blue with mostly Sapphire Black interior. WWI Pocket compass in chromed brass case. 8 cardinal points or winds, bears registered design mark 418645 published in 1903. Set within a quality Dennison watch case on consignment to the RAF. Untested, but observed correcting for north. Push button clasp set within chain mount. Engraved with serial number 3636 to reverse of lid and 2036 to the case circumference. Good condition.
Alice Waymouth A silver and enamel ring, a small enamelled button, a large enamelled copper disc decorated with lizards 102mm and a small enamelled disc (4)The large disc has a crack to the edge which appears under the enamel as it doesn't look to be on the surface. There are small chips to the enamel on the edges. The ring enamel has surface scratches. The button has a long crack running right across and various scratches. The small disc has surface scratches. None of these pieces are signed. Provenance - from the estate of Robert Morson Hughes & Eleanor Hughes. Alice Waymouth was Eleanor Hughes sister. A Chanel Mini Full Flap handbag in black quilted lambskin with gold tone hardware. 1989-91, serial number sticker and authentication card, width 20cm, height 15cm.Overall very good vintage condition. Some creases to the leather as to be expected. No scuffs or scratches. No wear to the corners. The button on the flap have some dents and scratches through use. The strap has minor scratches but the gold plating is good. No dust bag or box. These Chanel items have been consigned by a local collector.
