17th century A.D. Button links with flaming hearts over crossed arrows joined by an oval loop. 2.17 grams, 21 mm (3/4 in.). Acquired on the UK art market. Property of a Somerset collector, UK, since at least the early 2000s. Cufflinks and other dress fittings such as buttons featuring the hearts design were originally conceived to commemorate the marriage of king Charles II of England to Catherine of Braganza in 1662, although various designs continued as a general symbol of love and/or marriage. A VICTORIAN WALNUT AND LEATHER UPHOLSTERED CHESTERFIELD SOFA BY HOWARD & SONS, LATE 19TH CENTURY One back leg stamped '1768 2066', the brass casters stamped 'HOWARD & SONS LONDON' 71cm high, 227cm wide, 107cm deep Condition Report: Lot 484 - ChesterfieldSofa with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. The leather with the expected wear, creasing, marks, and some fading. Some additional scratches, small holes, and indentations to the leather - see images. A section of stitching to one rear corner of the sofa has opened (appox 10cm). This could be easily repaired by a skilled upholsterer. One button lacking, one loose, some of them are replacements. The legs with additional knocks and abrasions - see images for extent. One rear leg with a double screw repair to an old split. The other rear leg has a nail/pin applied where the serial number is.Please note, Dreweatts cannot guarantee the originality of elements beneath upholstery. CF MARTIN & CO NAZARETH PA a mid 20th century Martin 0-18 acoustic guitar serial number 111210 circa 1948, customised by Jimmy MacGregor in the work shop of English Luthier John Bailey, to feature shield mother of pearl inlay to frets 5,7,9,12 and 15 and the two piece back inlaid with divergent lines of spruce wood, the guitar is amplified with a Fishman pick up the jack input to the button, CF Martin & Co Est.1833 decal to the headstock, CF Martin and Co Nazareth PA to the internal cross brace and 0-18 1117210 stamped to the internal neck block. This instrument is from the collection of Jimmie MacGregor MBE. Musician, writer, broadcaster, played during performances and on recordings throughout his career. 6th century A.D.. Of Hines's Group XIII with running scrolls on the headplate surrounded by a border of beast-masks, deep bow with raised ribs, curved horse-head lappets and lateral lobes with facing masks, median panel of Style I ornament; remains of ferrous pin to the reverse and deep catch; some silver detailing; finial absent. Cf. Hines, J., A New Corpus of Anglo-Saxon Great Square-Headed Brooches, London, 1997, pl.42(a). 77.9 grams, 11.5 cm (4 1/2 in.). Found near Thetford, Norfolk, UK, circa 2010. This brooch falls within Hines's Group XIII and shares many features with an example from Nassington, Northamptonshire. The headplate bears a raised rectangular frame (possibly silvered) separating the inner scroll motif from the outer band of animal-masks which are pierced along the inner edge; the lappets are also pierced at the point of junction with the footplate. The lateral lobes feature facing masks of a helmetted type similar to those featured on contemporary button brooches.
Territorial Army Nursing Service Nurse uniform, blue-grey cloth including cap with TANS badge, jacket with two TANS badges, three shoulder buttons, cape with two TANS badges, belt with silver plated buckle, apron, dress.Condition report:The outer jacket is in fair condition, there is a repaired patch above the top front button, the lining is generally ok, some snags and minor tears but not significantly ripped. Then as you go down through the layers you see an increasing amount of moth and insect activity/ holes. The cowl has some holes to the back and shoulders; the under dress with pleated front is really quite significantly punctuated with holes, mostly to the back, also to the armpits. The linen aspects are all discoloured.
