* Spade Grip. A WWII Hurricane control column from Hurricane 5287 which crashed in South Africa on 28 December 1944, all parts numbered including AH 2040, the spade grip with gun firing button and brake lever, approximately 32.5 cm long, together with a South African Air Force Pilot's Logbook, commencing 11 January 1944, final entry 28 February 1946, the entry date of the crash with the comment 'tail clipped by Kittyhawk flown by 2nd Lt. Mayne', with an additional Air Ministry black and white photograph, 16.5 x 21.5 cm, documenting the crash site, inscribed to verso 'Friday 29-12-44, 06.30. Baled out of ... and landed 1/4 mile from embes. Was his at 9000ft opened chute at approx 5000 ft', a large portrait photograph of the pilot Flight Sergeant V.S. Meakin in RAF service uniform, 20.5 x 15.5 cm, laid on card, Pilot's Notes for Spitfire Mark F.VII and Mark F.VIII Merlin Engines (Air Ministry December 1943) and another for Hurricane II Aeroplane Merlin Engine, annotated by Meakin QTY: (5)NOTE:Victor Stuart Meakin was fighter training in South Africa on 28 December 1944 when he crashed Hurricane 5287. The aircraft was wrecked and this control column was salvaged from the aircraft. Meakin went on to serve a long and varied aviation career clocking up 18,500 flying hours by the time he retired aged 65. He continued his service with RAF reserve after WWII flying DH Vampires. Meakin went to Kenya to fly for the Kenya Police Airwing for 7 years from 1960 and during this time he won the East African Flying Club trophy for acrobatics flying Chipmunks 3 years running. From there he went to Zambia as Chief Pilot, Air Charter Zambia, flying the DH Dove among other aircraft. He then joined Zambia Airways on the DC 3, followed by HS 748, BAC1 11 and B707. He then went to South Africa and joined Air Botswana flying Viscount 8 and HS 748 as well as other regional Airlines. He was also an Instrument training examiner for the South African CAA. During a long and varied career, he flew all over Africa in many types of aircraft. He was in the news more than once, notably when he landed a Merlin Metro at Johannesburg on one main gear, the other failing to descend with no injury to the occupants. At age 64 he flew a DC 3 on a pioneer Tsetse fly spraying programme which involved high precision flying at night at a height of 50 feet in the Okavango, Botswana.

A Janice Bell carpet coat, 5-9 Kensington Palace Barracks, London, bought from Elio Fiorucci's shop c.1973. A fine exemplar of its time, the fully lined dress has a collar and front button fastening and  is in a rich red ribbed corduroy/velvet with shoulders and waistline in a beige ribbed fabric, floral panels decorate the front, inside the bodice and the back which is embellished  with a temples and domes design. The front fastening and large front pockets are edged with blue satin. (1) NOTE: Until next March, the Triennale di Milano has an exhibition on Elio Fiourucci and his impact on the Milanese fashion scene from 1960s to 2003. As reported in Vogue Italia: 'The exhibition – which features a vast collection of archive pieces – draws the public into the magical and entertaining world of Elio Fiorucci, revealing the value of discovery and that spirit of research that opens the mind.'

A tan mohair Steiff Teddy bear, German circa 1909, the straw filled bear with black boot button eyes, replaced black felt nose and stitched claws, swivel head and jointed at shoulders and hips, with small hump to back, elongated arms and large feet, tan paw pads and wearing his blue velvet jacket, 17” (43cm) tall, (condition: the well- loved bear with loss to mohair, mainly to face and tummy, some old stains to head and muzzle with repairs/splits, lacks stitches for nose and mouth, pads recovered, no button).

A rare Strunz mohair rod jointed Teddy bear, German 1904-06, the white straw stuffed bear with large black boot button eyes, small ears, pronounced muzzle, tan stitched mouth, swivel neck and rod jointed at shoulders and hips, hump to back and long limbs with black stitched claws and felt feet pads, 17” (43cm) tall, (condition: general wear and bald areas, hole to top of muzzle and smaller holes to side of muzzle and both cheeks, few small tears/holes to limbs and upper paw pads recovered, feet felt pads with a few holes). Wilhelm Strunz’s factory based in Nuremberg made mohair bears as early as 1904 in direct competition with Steiff, copying many of their designs which let to many court cases.

A rare pair of small Steiff mohair jointed fox cubs, German circa 1910, the straw filled orange and white fox cubs with swivel head and jointed legs, black mohair edging to ears, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, one with brown glass eyes and button to left ear, the other with replaced stitched eyes, lacks button, both 7” (18cm) long, not including tail, (condition: good, some wear to mohair, one lacks eyes and button, possibly some re-stitching to tummy), (2 items).

A rare Kathe Kruse ‘Du Mein’ sand baby doll VIw, German circa 1925, the life size new born baby doll with moulded muslin head, oil painted features, floppy neck, blue eyes, mouth and light brown hair with wisp to fringe, the stockinette sand filled body with stitched fingers, toes and belly button, wearing a white cotton nightdress and knitted cardigan, faint stamp to right foot, together with a long white nightdress, bed jacket, mittens and booties, 23” (59cm) tall, (condition: very good, a little dust to hands, repair to right side of body). These realistic dolls were inspired by Kathe Kruse after the birth of her son Max in 1922 and where used as training aids for new mothers in hospital.

Three post war mohair Teddy bears, including tan bear with pinched ears, black boot black eyes, black stitched nose and mouth, swivel head and jointed at shoulders and hips, with small hump to back, replaced paw pads and yellow neck ribbon, 18” (46cm) tall, with another with black button eyes and wearing a green knitted cardigan and a golden mohair bear with orange glass eyes and wearing a brown cardigan, (condition: all with some wear to mohair and paw pads), (3 items).
