HEAL & SON - ARTS & CRAFTS DRESSER designed by Sir Ambrose Heal (1872-1959), probably made in oak the overhanging cornice with a raised design to front and sides and a single shelf. The bottom section with two drawers and two cupboards, the dresser now painted. With a Heal & Son button to one drawer (writing on the button has now gone). 173cms high, 137cms across, 53cms deep *This dresser is illustrated in A History of Heals, London, 1984, Page 34, and is also illustrated in Sir Ambrose Heal and the Heal Cabinet Factory (1897-1939), Page 188.
Post 1902 British Lord Lieutenants / Civilian Officers Dress Bicorn Cap, fine beaver skin bicorn cap with embroidered brocade and silver bullion wire centre with crowned central button. Complete with its original green feathered plume. Interior with light tan leather sweatband and white artificial silk lining with gilt tooled makers details. Housed in its original japanned storage tin. Vendor states this headdress belonged to Sir Basil Thompson KCB, British colonial administrator and prison governor, who was Head of the CID during World War I. This gave him a key role in arresting wartime spies, and he was closely involved in the prosecution of Mata Hari, Sir Roger Casement and many Irish and Indian nationalists. His equating of Jews with Bolshevism led to accusations of anti-semitism. Thomson was also a successful novelist. No indication of attribution.
WW2 British Camouflaged Windproof Smock Set, good combat worn matching set consisting of camouflaged windproof jacket with two beast pockets and two lower pockets. Integral hood with cloth ties. Button closure to the cuffs. No size label to the inside but WD broad arrow marked with date letter “M” for 1944. Accompanied by matching windproof camouflaged trousers which retains the original label which is size marked No2 and ink dated 1943. The set shows expected service wear. These windproof suits were favoured combat wear of the British Commandos and Special Air Service (S.A.S) during WW2.
WW2 German Luftwaffe Russian Front Field Cap, good example of the special pattern field cap produced in white hide and brown sheep’s wool lined interior and drop down ear flaps. Complete with the original eagle and cockade insignia to the front. Fixing button absent from the ear flaps. Shows service wear but generally still a good example.
