Post-facelift R230 with 510bhp and the F1 Performance pack.Second-generation R230 SL55 AMG (supercharged) with 510bhp and 530ft.lb Finished in Iridium Silver with Charcoal Hide and in superb condition throughout Described by Evo magazine in period as "a supercar in disguise" Fitted with the F1 Performance Pack (aero/suspension/brakes) Comprehensive specification includes a limited slip differential, additional oil cooler, electric memory seats, air conditioning and wind deflector Dated Command sat-nav replaced with £3,000 Apple Car Play Impressive service history with stamped book, detailed invoices and MOT Certificates, current valid until 11/02/2022 Present recorded mileage, at time of viewing was just 46,096 with the last belt change being recorded at 44,644 miles An opportunity to acquire a real wolf in sheeps clothing in outstanding condition throughout Mercedes-Benz launched its new SL-Class (R230) of high-performance GTs in September 2001 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, though one had already served as Formula 1's Safety Car at Hockenheim in July. In 2002, the SL55 AMG went on sale. Hailed by Evo magazine as a supercar in disguise, the latter was powered by a supercharged 5.4-litre V8 engine initially producing 469bhp and a monstrous 520lb/ft of torque. The second generation of the R230 SL500, marketed as the Phase II, was introduced in 2006 and naturally the SL55AMG benefited from the same changes. The revisions for the 2006 SL55 AMG included a new grille, inspired by the SL65 AMG and the front bumper was redesigned and looked more aggressive than before.Inside, there was a new steering wheel and new options available, including heated and ventilated seats, adaptive cruise control and a push-button start on top of the gearbox stick. Most of the major changes were technical, the front disc-brakes were carried-over from the SL65 AMG and were bigger with 6-pot calipers instead of the older 8-pot units, the engine was re-tuned with a new compressor now generating 510bhp (up from 493) and the gearbox reverted to the old and reliable 5G-Tronic box allowing for the increase in torque.Naturally, the AMG F1 Performance pack was available on the Phase II car, at around £10,000, and this included an AMG Alcantara-trimmed sports steering wheel, Active Suspension with 20% stiffer Nürburgring settings, larger brakes cooled by vents in the SL65 front bumper, 19" two-piece double spoke alloys, AMG locking differential, Carbon Fibre trim and the speed limiter was recalibrated to 186mph although the power output remained at 510bhp.This superb example is presented in Iridium Silver with a Charcoal leather interior and is fitted with electric memory seats, air conditioning with climate control and a wind deflector. It has a full service history, all main dealer history except for the last two, which were carried out by a Mercedes-Benz specialist. It enjoyed a major service in August 2019, which included the drive belts and plugs with an invoice total of £3,880 and it has covered just over 900 miles since. It was most recently serviced in February 2021 and the rather dated 'Command' satellite navigation system was replaced with a modern £3,000 Apple CarPlay touch screen unit (the original unit will come with car retaining its provenance). This is a fabulous example of AMG's deft touch with the SL and will reward any inspection. A cleverly-engineered, hand-built re-creation of the pretty little 206SP using a 246 Dino as a base.A US-supplied, left-hand drive Ferrari 246 expertly re-engineered into a remarkable 206 SP re-creationChassis professionally modified in the US, 206 SP Alloy body constructed by Giordenengo in Italy to original specificationsFitted with a longitudinally-mounted, 206 alloy block engine understood to have been rebuilt with balanced crank and motorsport pistonsCurrently UK-registered as an historic vehicle, previously registered in Germany and on-the-button ready for useIssued with FIVA papers in November 2012, features in ‘Ferrari World Book’ chassis 01508 Type 246 Red Dino 206 replicaBody and interior beautifully restored in the UK by highly regarded classic specialists Sherwood RestorationsA beautiful machine with excellent road manners suitable for road or perhaps competition useLike its big brother, the 330P3, the Dino 206S was bodied by Drogo’s Carrozzeria Sports Cars and utilised a multi-tube frame with alloy panels riveted to it for additional stiffness, in essence a semi-monocoque structure. Ferrari’s intention was that 50 of the cars would be built, qualifying it as an FIA Group 4 Sports Car, but the financial difficulties that would lead to Ferrari’s merger with Fiat three years later prevented that optimistic goal from being met and in the end only 18 of these wonderful, quick, beautiful sports racers were built. Consequently, what started out as a Dino 206 S (for Sport) became known as the Dino 206 SP (Sport Prototipo).Offered here is a truly remarkable 206 SP re-creation constructed using a 1971 246 Dino GT as a base with the chassis re-engineered in the USA and an all-alloy body beautifully hand-crafted in Italy. This car started life as an American-spec Ferrari Dino supplied new in 1971 and at some point, when Dino values were at a low ebb, a high quality conversion was undertaken.Documents within the history file confirm that Jim Carpenter, a well-regarded Ferrari specialist based in Arizona, would be responsible for the Chassis modification and an all-Aluminium hand-crafted body would be commissioned by Giordenengo in Italy. The ’71 246 GT chassis was professionally modified to accept a longitudinally-mounted Ferrari 206 Dino alloy block engine which, we understand, had been uprated with ‘motorsport’ pistons, a balanced crankshaft, connecting rods and flywheel.Reportedly never raced, the car was exported to Germany with all copies of registration papers on file and later imported into the UK. Once in the UK, the car was subject to further attention from highly regarded classic specialists, Sherwood Restorations. The scope of work included some bodywork, a full re-paint in Rosso Corsa, a new custom-made windscreen (with a spare also produced which accompanies the car), a cabin re-trim and various other works to bring this fascinating 206 SP re-creation up to its best. It must be noted that the standard of finish achieved is remarkable and any inspection of this vehicle is highly recommended with no disappointment expected.Accompanying the car is an equally fascinating and detailed history file including a copy of the FIVA Identity Card granted in 2012, current UK registration papers (V5c), copies of previous German registration papers, details and invoices for restorations works by Sherwood Restorations, invoices from other more recent mechanical maintenance works, old MOT Certificates, correspondence between previous owners and Jim Carpenter, the Ferrari Owners Club UK and copies of paperwork from America. In summary, this is a very attractive, well-engineered, highly versatile 206 SP re-creation that can be enjoyed as a well-mannered sports car or perhaps used in competition. The overall quality of finish is remarkably good, the Targa roof can be removed and neatly stows in the rear, the visibility from the cabin is superb, the controls are light and extremely responsive, the engine fires on-the-button and sounds keen and healthy and we are informed that the handling at speed is sublime. It’s also worth noting that this example is recorded in the ‘Ferrari World Book’ – Handbuch Der Ferrari Seriennummern 1947-2007 which records ‘Chassis 01508 – Type 246 Red Dino 206 Replica’ which certainly underlines its provenance. To re-create this 206 SP replica today to this standard would cost a fortune, with a donor potentially costing as much as our lower estimate and we believe we believe, at this guide, this gorgeous little red Ferrari represents superb value. Superbly restored by Jack Barclay, this gracious Mark VI can boast Saudi Royal Provenance and Champs-Élysées chic.A charming example, delivered new to The Bristol Motor Company in 1951Its third owner was H.R.H. Prince Turki Al Faisal, Prince of the Royal Saudi familyHe commissioned a full restoration by Jack Barclay in 1997 including a Mustard Yellow two-tone finish. The interior was totally restored in beautiful tan leather and all woodwork suitably rejuvenated. Receipts are in the file totalling approximately £47,000Not short of glamour throughout its life having lived on the Champs-Élysées followed by a couple of years in a Saudi Royal PalaceFascinating history file containing original factory build-sheets and specifications, invoices for work conducted by Frank Dale and a detailed account of the full restoration by Jack BarclayA splendid opportunity to enjoy the ultimate in fifties' prestige saloon ownershipIt comes with the complete original owners tool kit Introduced in 1946, the MKVI was Bentley's first post-war model and the first vehicle ever offered by the company with factory-designed coachwork. Built around a massive cruciform-braced chassis with independent front suspension and a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle, it was fitted with a freshly developed 4257cc OISE (overhead inlet side exhaust valve) straight-six engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. Capable of over 100mph when clad in the factory's understated 'standard steel saloon' coachwork, the MKVI quickly developed a reputation for being a refined yet responsive drive. Offered here is a charming example of the Mark VI that was delivered new to The Bristol Motor Company in 1951 and later became the personal London car of a prominent Prince of the Royal Saudi family. Purchased by The Bristol Motor Company as a demonstrator in 1951, it was sold to Arthur Short Esq. in December 1951 before ownership passed to H.R.H. Prince Turki Al Faisal who had the Bentley fully restored by Jack Barclay in 1997. With the car is a fascinating history file containing original factory build-sheets and specifications, invoices for work conducted by Frank Dale and a detailed account of the full restoration by Jack Barclay. The Mark VI still carries its original registration from 1951 and, during the 1997 restoration, the Black Belco coachwork was enhanced by a Mustard Yellow two-tone finish highlighting the bodylines, and it seems the favoured colour combination for a two-year stay in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The history file contains shipping details (returned to the UK in 1999) and plenty of correspondence to Jack Barclay and the shipping agents responsible for the Bentleys visit to Saudi Arabia. It seems it also spent time in Paris on the Champs-Élysées with the French registration, 664 ARV 92. The file also contains letters outlining Jack Barclay's collection of the car from Paris in June 1996 by covered wagon before they embarked on their comprehensive restoration. The interior was totally restored in beautiful tan leather and all woodwork suitably rejuvenated. Receipts are in the file totalling approximately £47,000. Amazingly, despite all its adventures, the original tool kit, bulbs and all, appear to have remained intact. All in all, this is a beautiful Bentley with a fascinating timeline and offers a splendid opportunity to enjoy the ultimate in Fifties' prestige saloon ownership. Fresh from a complete nut and bolt restoration, this lovely 1952 Roadster has just been run-in and is now ready for the summer. This 1952 Roadster was imported from Southern California just two years ago. Since been through a complete restoration, fully documented with photographs Converted to right-hand drive, brand new steering-box components and original right-hand drive controlsUpgrades include disc brakes, front and rear, a new servo and a bespoke Aluminium radiator More powerful 3.4-litre XK150 engine fitted, now fully rebuilt Bias towards the racing heritage with the addition of a Le Mans fuel filler, leather bonnet strap, period spotlights and the deletion of the front bumper bladesCompletely new interior, in red with leather-trimmed bucket seats "The engine pulls strongly, is silky smooth with no flat-spots, and starts on the button every time whether hot or cold."Fabulous restoration of a Jaguar Classic that bears a striking resemblance to NUB 120, the world's most famous XK JaguarA car-starved Britain, still trundling around in perpendicular pre-war hangover vehicles, glimpsed the future in October 1948 with the launch of the Jaguar XK120 at the Earls Court Motor Show. Production commenced in 1949 in Coventry, and the XK's swoopy shape and stylish occupants would become a common sight on British roads over the next 15 years. It heralded the arrival of Jaguar's famous 3.4-litre twin overhead camshaft XK engine, (the basis of all their engines for the next 25 years) with an alloy cylinder head and twin side-draught SU carburettors producing nearly 160bhp. Conceived during the war, the new six-cylinder was created by Jaguar’s chief engineer Bill Heynes and engine wizard Harry Weslake. As the firm tested various designs (labelled X for experimental and tagged G, H or J), it was a compact twin-cam four labelled ‘K’ that stood out. With two more cylinders added taking it to 3.4 litres, it became the engine that would power generations of sporting Jaguars for several decades starting with the XK120 The “120” referred to the car's top speed which, at the time, made it the fastest production car in the world. Jaguar seems to have always had a flair for marketing and to illustrate that the car's top speed was not a figment of a publicist's imagination, in May 1949, on the Jabbeke to Aeltre autoroute, an XK120 with its hood and side screens in place recorded a speed of 126mph, and no less than 132mph with the hood and windscreen detached and an undertray fitted. However, the most famous XK120 is undoubtedly Ian Appleyard's legendary 'NUB 120'. He was a director of the family car dealership, Appleyards of Leeds, and a talented rally driver. Using his alloy-bodied, privately-entered 120 and accompanied by his wife, Pat Lyons, daughter of Jaguar founder William Lyons, they enjoyed great results at International level in the Tulip Rally, RAC and Monte Carlo, however, it was their success in the Alpine Rally, finishing unpenalised three times in a row from 1950 to 1952, and becoming the first driver to win the coveted Coupe d’Or (Gold Cup), that’s most feted. Jaguar, of course, missed no opportunity to market the XK120’s success everywhere, Pathé newsreels, Sunday papers, billboards, the sides of London buses “The fastest Production Sports Car in the World”, motoring magazines, simply everywhere in the English-speaking world. With its catchy registration number, NUB 120, became a household name and is probably the most promoted individual Jaguar in the world. It still resides within the Jaguar Heritage Collection and is brought out a dozen times a year.Anyone looking at the striking XK120 Roadster on offer here can’t fail to notice the similarity to NUB 120 which, according to our vendor, the car's creator, is not entirely a coincidence. In his own words:"This 1952 Roadster was imported from the US just 2 years ago. It’s a Southern Californian car so was amazingly rust-free and proved a perfect candidate for refurbishment. It has since been through a complete restoration from end to end, fully documented with photographs taken every step of the way. It was converted to RHD using brand new steering-box components and a complete set of original RHD pedal controls. Along the way, there have been a few upgrades incorporated to help with safety and overall efficiency. Disc brakes have been installed front and rear utilising brand new components from Zeus Engineering along with a new servo system and a bespoke Aluminium radiator has been fitted and adapted for the engine which is now a fully rebuilt 3.4-litre unit from a later, more powerful XK150. The electrics have been upgraded utilising an original factory loom modified with additional relays and fuses, plus switches for the spot lights, indicators and manual control of the starting carburettor. An alternator has also been fitted allowing the rectifier to be deleted. A custom throttle-linkage has been created which allows for different pedal travel and provides much improved throttle response compared to the original rod-operated system. Finally, a unique custom twin exhaust system has been built which follows the later XK140/150 design but still retains the ‘look’ of a 120 at the rear with factory-looking twin pipes.Throughout the restoration process, there has been a biClick here for more details and images
A purposeful early Series 1, lightened and slightly modified for fast road with potential for competition use with further upgrades.US-delivered, left-hand drive Series 1 3.8 E-Type Fixed-head Coupe sensibly upgraded for fast road useA Briggs Cunningham tribute including lightweight panels, tuned suspension, Accusump and fuel cellPotential to be further developed for competition use with suitable upgrades, a good base for fun on the circuits or hill-climbsImported from California and accompanied by a large history file with details of the car's developmentOffered from a private collection, on-the-button with an MOT for peace of mind, well maintained and ready to enjoyOffered here is a rather purposeful looking, early left-hand drive Series 1 E-Type 3.8 upgraded for fast road use. Exported and sold through US distributor Jaguar Cars, New York and first registered in California in 1963, around 48 years later the E-Type returned to the UK. Over the years, whilst in the US, this lovely British sports car has been owned by some well known personalities including ex-Santa Pod champion – Clive Skilton. A member of the 'British Drag Racing Hall of Fame', he was a leading light in drag racing in the UK and, in fact, his first ever event was at Santa Pod in 1967 driving an E-Type. He moved to the US in 1976 and spent many years circuit racing and developing well-engineered competition cars.Skilton took the decision to set about a thorough restoration of this venerable E-Type and rebuild the car with some performance modifications, for fast road use or perhaps competition. Briggs Cunningham was a legendary American entrepreneur, Americas Cup skipper, racing driver and team owner whose distinctively coloured Cunningham CR cars appeared at Le mans on a regular basis. Finished in White with twin Blue Stripes his racing colours were later adopted by the US as the official racing colours of America. His last drive at Le Mans was in 1963 in an E-Type, naturally finished in white and blue, and Skelton decided to finish this car in those colours as a tribute to the 'larger than life' character. The restoration and improvements would be recorded in two large leather-bound folders which accompany the car detailing works from start to finish. Some of the modifications listed include; Roll cage, fuel cell, Accusump – for constant oil pressure, fire extinguisher, battery re-location with cut-off and some performance upgrades including uprated brakes, tuned suspension and custom exhaust. The bodywork was de-seamed and reprofiled and the car looks very impressive.Offered directly from a private collection and thoroughly enjoyed since 2015 we are informed by our vendor that the car fires on-the-button and performs well. The E-Type has been consistently well maintained and although MOT exempt has been regularly tested for peace of mind, the current MOT expires on 9th December 2021. Recent work includes a fuel system overhaul, braking system overhaul and electronic ignition, with invoices on file.In summary, this is a performance-focused, left-hand drive Series 1 fixed-head coupe which offers a rewarding driving experience and sounds like a competition Jaguar from the ‘60s. It could continue to be enjoyed on the road or perhaps, with some further development, used for hill-climbs or maybe even circuit racing.SpecificationMake: JAGUARModel: E-TYPEYear: 1963Chassis Number: 888565Registration Number: BHK 267ATransmission: ManualEngine Number: RA1837-9 Drive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 80571 MilesMake: LHDInterior Colour: BlueClick here for more details and images
A much loved and well-travelled 4/4 Series 1, on the button and ready to go.In present ownership for 50 yearsRegularly used and maintained as requiredMany adventures throughout the UK and Europe including Le Mans on a regular basisFull restoration some years ago completed by Morgan specialist Martyn StendallSuperb throughout and rarely available on the open marketThe Morgan 4/4 (later known as the 4/4 Series 1) made its debut at the Motor Show in 1936 (until then Morgans had only ever appeared at the Motor Cycle Show) priced very competitively at 185 Guineas. The new car featured an open two-seater body with luggage space behind the seats and two spare wheels mounted at the rear. The four-cylinder Coventry Climax had a capacity of 1122cc with overhead pushrod-operated inlet valves and side exhaust valves and 34bhp was transmitted through a Borg and Beck clutch down a short shaft to a mid-mounted 4-speed gearbox and onwards down a Hardy Spicer prop shaft to a spiral-bevel back axle.Having been with its current custodian for approximately 50 years, BVH 766 has lived a life and then some. Fully restored some twenty five years ago by Martyn Stendall this is a superb Jaguar Brooklands British Racing Green with black interior 'Flat Rad' Series 1 that has been cared for throughout its life. Every component received attention, from engine to back axle with that final component being uprated by Brian Gateson at Techniques Morgan. Many journeys into Europe and all over the UK have given this Series 1 Morgan a gentle patina, not that of a Concours trophy contender, but one of a much loved, well travelled and cherished companion. The 300 marked a post-war return to Mercedes-Benz tradition of building high-performance, luxury automobiles of the highest quality.Supplied new to Australia in right-hand drive, this rare W189 Type 300D Adenauer has benefitted from the warm dry climate and presents beautifullyFinished in gleaming Schwartz paintwork with extremely well preserved Bordeaux leather interiorA matching numbers example accompanied by its original book-pack with service book and driver's manualsBenefitting from a recent (200 miles ago) full inspection and service with a written report. No warnings or advisories and described as 'on-the-button'Imported into the UK with taxes paid on a NOVA with V5c applied for by our vendorA well-built, graceful, luxurious classic car rarely seen on British roads, an unusual discovery in such fine orderThe car of choice among West German government officials and was widely favoured by businessmen, financiers and politicians, indeed, 'Adenauer' became its unofficial model name, after German Chancellor Dr Konrad Adenauer, its most famous customer Daimler-Benz AG emerged from the smoking rubble of World War II in somewhat precarious health, with production plants that had been pretty comprehensively levelled by Allied bombing. Far from being a broken nation, the resilience of the workforce was remarkable and Mercedes-Benz resumed car production in 1946, albeit with the pre-war 170V, a modest middle-class car that had been their best-seller in the 1930s. However, in less than six years, the company was sufficiently confident to return to the luxury market when the Mercedes 300 was introduced at the 1951 Frankfurt Motor Show and for the duration of the Fifties, Mercedes-Benz prestige line-up was based on the 300 range, at the heart of which was essentially the same superb 2996cc overhead-camshaft six-cylinder engine found in the legendary 300SL 'Gullwing'.The 300 Saloon was aimed squarely at Captains of Industry and Heads of State - indeed, the model was nicknamed 'Adenauer' after Konrad Adenauer, the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. In office from 1949 to 1963, he employed six custom convertible, hardtop, and landaulet versions during his tenure. Inside, the 300 was beautifully executed in polished wood, with deep bucket seats trimmed in either cloth or leather and a division was available as an option for those who preferred to be chauffeur driven. Improvements came with the 300B of 1954 in the form of twin Solex carburettors, along with servo-assisted brakes and minor styling changes while the 300C model of September 1955 saw the option of a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic for the American market. Introduced in August 1957, the 300d was the linear successor to the 300c, with a longer wheelbase, fuel injection, and unique hardtop configuration transforming it into a pillarless 'Phaeton'. An additional four-inches of wheelbase provided greater rear legroom, equalling that of the long wheelbase Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Removable rear quarter-lights allowed an unobstructed view in and out from the front vent window all the way to the back, much valued in the model's popular role as a 'parade car'. Employing a slightly detuned version of the 300 SL sports cars Bosch fuel injected engine, the 300D produced 180bhp at 5500 rpm. Automatic transmission was standard and power brakes, power steering, and Artic-Kar air-conditioning were added as options.Offered here is a truly magnificent 1959 Mercedes-Benz (W189) 300D delivered new in right-hand drive to Australia. Presented in Schwartz-black paintwork with a remarkably well preserved, luxurious Bordeaux leather interior this particular ‘Adenauer’ has benefitted from the warm, dry Australian climate. It's fitted with a matching-numbers, fuel-injected, 3.0-litre straight-six making 180bhp coupled to a 3-speed automatic transmissionConsigned from a private Mercedes-Benz collection and selected for its superb condition, the 300D’s bodywork has benefitted from some cosmetic attention with the underside also in good order as might be expected from a vehicle from a dry country vehicle. The inside is well-preserved and largely original, good condition, retaining the deep-red factory leather upholstery and the wooden door caps, veneers, Bakelite and chrome all present with patina commensurate with the car’s age. All of the controls, gauges, and electrics currently work as they should.Although MOT exempt due to its ‘Historic’ car status, the 300D was subject to a full Lubrication Service under 200 miles ago in 2020, with no warnings or advisories. The invoice on file details a full oil and filter change with engine flush and supply of new battery. The major service included checking; engine fluids, V-belts, brake pads and handbrake operation, engine ignition system, all electrical items, brake fluid and coolant levels. Also, a full inspection of underbody including; suspension bushes, steering system, exhaust system, prop shaft and couplings, fuel tank lines and wheel bearings. It's accompanied by a detailed history file including the original owners manuals, service book and the original tool kit. All taxes have been paid and the car comes with its NOVA letter from the DVLA and the V5 logbook has been applied for. Wearing its 62 years well, the 300D starts on-the-button, drives well, stops as it should with the body showing no obvious accident damage. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a truly remarkable 300D 'Adenauer'. Its popularity has never diminished and a plethora of variants and styles have always been hungrily anticipated and universally enjoyed by the car's cult following all of whom treasure the next instalment from Volkswagen. Whilst many motorists today appreciate the exhilaration of roof-down 'wind-in-your-hair' motoring, few are willing to forego saloon-car comfort in order to enjoy it, however, the Golf GTi cabriolet makes any such sacrifice unnecessary having been designed and built by one of the world's most experienced builders of open-touring cars - Karmann of Osnabruck. Lower the hood - a simple matter of releasing two clasps - and you're ready to take advantage of every moment of sunshine which a British Summer can muster.Offered here is a wonderfully well preserved 1983 Golf GTi Cabriolet that once formed part of the 'Patrick Collection', a museum with an eclectic display of historically significant classic cars. It was first registered in August 1983 and today is showing a little under 12,000 miles on the odometer. It's presented in classic 80s colours with gleaming Artic White paintwork, untouched white cloth sports seats and a white hood. We are informed that the car has been maintained and dry stored correctly from new with custom fitted seat covers preserving the sports seats. The underside of the car still displays much of the factory-applied Waxoyl and there are no areas of corrosion to report.Accompanying this GTi is a history file with receipts and invoices for maintenance over the years including old MOTs and a current fresh MOT due to expire July 2022. Offered from long-term ownership, we understand that it starts on-the-button and still turns heads on sunny days Rarely do examples this good come to market and here we have a great opportunity to take ownership of a rare ‘drop top’ version of the legendary Golf GTi.
