A circa 1900 silver capstan inkwell, the cylindricial ring turned body having hinged domed cover and dip pen holders, to a circular foot on button feet with raised undulating pierced gallery, with heavy glass internal inkwell held in place by a hinged silver strut to the underside, maker Harold Child, London 1901, further marked Child & Child London SW, silver weight 17.3ozt, base dia.18cm, h.8cm Missing four bun feet to underside.Recently polished, some small spotted tarnished areas remain.Glass inset inkwell with heavy chipped losses to underside.

A man's embroidered tunic, Normandy, France, 2nd half 19th century, expertly hand-stitched unstructured smock-like tunic of indigo dyed linen, embroidered in white cotton thread, with long sleeves, round neck close-gathered with tiny decorative stitches, and side slits (for pocket access?), neck with button and loop closure at each side, neck, shoulders, sleeve seams, cuffs, and side seams, with finely embroidered decorative borders, incorporating floral and foliate motifs, and hearts, using a variety of stitches, including chain, buttonhole, feather, and laced running stitch, scattered marks and faint soiling, a few tiny holes, 15 x 4 mm burn hole to rear, pit to pit 85 cm (33.5 ins), sleeves 49 cm (19.25 ins), length 72 cm (28.25 ins) QTY: (1)NOTE:An exquisitely made garment, evidently sewn by an expert needlewoman. It may have been made for a competition, although it shows signs of having been worn, perhaps as an artist's smock.
