A RARE FRENCH EIGHT DAY CLOCK, FIVE MINUTE REPEATER CARRIAGE CLOCK, in a gilded gorge case with original bracket feet and blanking plate, the bevelled oval top glass shows the original lever platform and is marked in respect of the front push button, hour repeat, and on the reverse opposite, a second push button, 5 minute repeat; the 5 minute repeat is controlled by a star wheel and snail on the back plate over the hours by a normal rack system on a blued steel coil gong, enamelled dial with Roman numerals (minute hand a replacement) inscribed on the back "Patent SJHETY" "RCLLER" and numbered 2201. 19cm to top of handle (7.5in), C1880's, sold with key. *** For further information see ALLIX AND BONNERT, Carriage Clocks, their History and Development, page 198 (description and photograph).
