2 Large-Medium pierced bordered Egyptian head enamels.These two buttons are beautifully executed in the Champleve technique. And set with a pierced border. The button facing right has a little reddish area in the upper triangle, this could be what is called fire scale. 1 19th century assorted material mostly glass charmstring.Charmstrings were popular in the Victorian period. The full charmstring would have 999 small buttons on it with many small glass buttons. Charmstrings were made by women in the Victorian period who would get together and string these buttons together. The lore is that if they added a 1000th button to the string they would remain a spinster for life. This partial string has lots of glass and metal buttons on it. 42 Small size 19th/20th century charmstring glass buttons.Here is a nice card of assorted glass buttons. Most are 19th century with a couple of exceptions. Most are charmstring style glass. Charmstrings were a pastime in the early days when women would get together and sew a string of buttons together, often glass buttons. There is a story that if they strung the 1000th button on they would remain a spinster for life. Charmstrings can reach up to 999 buttons for that reason. This card includes Victorian glass, old paperweights, clambroth, rosette shanks and more. Great card. Charmstrings were a pastime in the early days when women would get together and sew a string of buttons together, often glass buttons. There is a story that if they strung the 1000th button on they would remain a spinster for life. Charmstrings can reach up to 999 buttons for that reason. This card includes Victorian glass, old paperweights, radiants, kaleidoscopes, ribboned glass and mire.. Great card. These buttons came off a card of buttons from the 1940's of ceramic buttons molded from 19th century brass picture buttons. Not all the buttons are signed but some bear the initials AD or some the name Adams, and one rare button made for the 1946 Just buttons Fair is signed Townsend. I have decided to break the card up to offer them in this and future auctions to the collectors. This is the first of 6 lots in this auction.
