Bear is 5-ways jointed and made from mohair which has aged to a delightful apricot color. The bear has a prominent back hump and classic early Steiff proportions. His face is detailed with black shoebutton eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. He has four claws on each paw. This bear has a particularly endearing expression. ASTONISHINGLY RARE AND HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT ORIGINAL STEIFF ROD BEAR WITH ELEPHANT BUTTON. Where it all began-almost. The oldest Steiff teddy bear design as we know it in existence today. This utterly remarkable blond mohair bear is rod jointed, the second type of jointing Steiff experimented with at the very early turn of the last century. Bears with rod jointing were only produced for a small number of years and very few remain today. This bear is made from blond mohair, is 5-ways jointed, and has felt paw pads. He originally would have had five black claw stitches on each paw; he is missing a few stitches on his left hand paw. Teddy`s body is very solidly stuffed. His early and lovely face is detailed with black shoebutton eyes, a shaved muzzle, a black hand-formed gutta percha nose, and a light brown mouth. And the piece de resistance, teddy has his original elephant button in his ear, perhaps the most desirable Steiff ID in the world. SIZE: Overall 15"" t (38cm). Sitting 10-1/2"" t (26cm). STUNNING & EXTREMELY DESIRABLE STEIFF YELLOW TEDDY BEAR FROM 1925 WITH BUTTON. This amazing and truly beautiful teddy bear design was produced because Richard Steiff, in a letter from America, insisted that Steiff bears, which had not changed significantly in design since their introduction at the turn of the last century, become more soft, colorful and warm, reflecting the culture of the time. This charming bear is made from very long, soft and curly slightly faded yellow mohair and is jointed 5-ways. Teddy has tan felt paw pads with four hand-embroidered claws on each. The distinctly youthful and feminine face is detailed with oversized brown and black glass pupil eyes, hand-embroidered nose and mouth, and a slightly shorter mohair muzzle. She retains her long trailing ""F"" Steiff button. This bear was also produced in pink mohair; overall from 1925-1930, 5271 yellow and 4794 pink examples were produced. SIZE: Overall 20"" t (50cm). REMARKABLE AND MOST UNUSUAL VERY EARLY 6-WAY JOINTED MOHAIR STEIFF CAT WITH BUTTON. A delightful and most unusual example of Steiff`s mid-size 6-ways jointed cat. In this design, the head, limbs and tail are all jointed and fully posable. Cat is made from light gray colored mohair which has been highlighted with additional gray striping making her truly the cat`s meow. She has tiny tan claws stitched on her paws. Cat`s face is detailed with tiny green and black slit pupil eyes, a tiny pink hand-embroidered nose and mouth, a touch of pink paint and a few clear monofilament whiskers. OUTSTANDING LATE 1920s STEIFF ""FLUFFY"" CAT WITH ALL IDS AND WORKING MUSIC BOX. This precious and most feminine looking cat is sitting, head jointed, and made from very long white and grey tipped mohair which has mellowed to an attractive lilac color over time. Her tail wraps around her body and she has red hand-embroidered claws on her front legs. Her forehead has a center seam and her face is detailed with oversized green and black glass pupil eyes, a pink hand-embroidered nose and mouth, and clear monofilament whiskers. She also retains traces of her original yellow-orange silk ribbon. Fluffy has a working music box which lets out a few happy notes when her sides are squeezed. This is a wonderful example and the smallest Steiff musical item this cataloger has ever seen; overall musical Fluffy was produced in 17, 22, and 30cm from 1928 through 1932. MAGNIFICENT STEIFF ""FLUFFY"" CAT ON A PINCUSHION. A beautiful version of Steiff`s 10cm ""Fluffy"" cat on a pink mohair pincushion. Fluffy is sitting, unjointed, and made from white and tipped mohair, which has taken on a distinctive lilac tone over time. Fluffy`s face is detailed with green & black glass pupil eyes, a pink hand-embroidered nose and mouth and clear monofilament whiskers. Her bell is original, but her bow is not. Fluffy retains all of her original Steiff IDs including her metal rimmed ""Fluffy"" chest tag, long trailing ""F"" Steiff button, and red ear tag which includes her series number. OUTSTANDING AND VERY EARLY STEIFF VELVET CAT PINCUSHION WITH BUTTON. Cat is lying, unjointed, and made from white velvet that has been painted with black and brown spots and stripes. He has a very long tail which sticks out straight behind him. Cat wears a light blue ruff which is original to him. Cat holds a tiny blue velvet pillow style pincushion between his two front paws. The pincushion is detailed with two tiny blue silk bows and a few silver straight pins. Cat`s adorable face is detailed with tiny black shoebutton eyes, a light pink hand-embroidered nose and mouth that are highlighted with a touch of pink paint, and clear monofilament whiskers. This is only the second time this cataloger has seen this pattern; it is rare, classic, and truly demonstrates the best of Steiff`s turn of last century design and manufacturing capabilities. This cat pincushion appeared in the line in this size only from 1902 though 1918. Cat retains her tiny trailing ""F"" button and traces of her white ear tag as her Steiff IDs. QUITE RARE AND EXCEPTIONALLY COLLECTIBLE STEIFF JACK RABBIT WITH BUTTON. Rabbit is standing and head and arm jointed. He has mohair hands and a mohair head. His clothes, which are integral to his body are made from velvet. He wears black leather shoes with ties, blue and white striped velvet socks, tan shorts, a brown blazer detailed with two brass-like buttons and a large silk tie. Rabbit`s large mohair ears are lined in velvet and are posable with metal wires. Rabbit`s face is detailed with large black and brown glass pupil eyes, brown hand-embroidered nose, and black mouth. He has a tiny red felt tongue and clear monofilament whiskers. This product is based on the character of a famous children`s book written by Uncle Dave Cory and published by Grosset & Dunlop Books. LATE 1920s STEIFF PURPLE MOHAIR BEGGING RABBIT WITH BUTTON. Rabbit is begging, head jointed, and made from white and the most joyously colored purple mohair. He has three tan hand-embroidered claws on his back legs. His long ears are lined in wire and are posable. His face is detailed with large black and brown pupil eyes, a pink hand-embroidered nose and mouth, and clear monofilament whiskers. Nonworking squeaker in belly. His bow and bell are original. This beloved and popular design was produced in sizes ranging from 11 to 70cm overall in light brown, white, gold, purple, pink, and light blue from 1926 through 1933. Rabbit is sitting, head jointed and is made of lilac and tan velvet. His ears are lined in wire and are posable. The insides of the velvet ears are lightly airbrushed in pink. Rabbit`s face is detailed with large brown and black glass pupil eyes, a tan hand-embroidered nose, which is outlined in black, and a black mouth. Rabbit retains his trailing ""F"" button and has remnants of his red ear tag. Rabbit rests upon a lovely light green square mohair pin cushion. FULLY JOINTED STEIFF POLAR BEAR WITH BUTTON AND UNIQUE BALL-JOINTED NECK FEATURE. A most endearing circa 1910 polar bear made from white mohair, which has darkened slightly over time. Polar bear has tan felt paw pads with four hand-embroidered claws on each. The bear`s face is preciously detailed with tiny black shoebutton eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. A special feature of this particular model is his ball-jointed neck which enables him to rotate his head in a full circle. This design advancement, patented by Steiff in 1908, was also used on poodles, pigs, cats and opossums. Polar bear retains the Steiff trailing ""F"" button and remains of his white ear tag. He has distinctive linen paw pads; Steiff used this material in the place of felt on their items when felt for toy makers was in short supply due to geopolitical logistics and rationing. Teddy has five hand-embroidered black claws on each paw. His pensive and thoughtful face is detailed with brown and black pupil eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. Ted retains his short trailing ""F"" button and traces of his yellow ear tag as his Steiff IDs. Because of their somewhat limited time in production, and infrequency on the secondary market, bears with linen pads such as this one are usually of particular interest to collectors. INCREDIBLY RARE, HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT, AND ASTONISHINGLY COLLECTIBLE BLACK STEIFF TITANIC MOURNING BEAR WITH BUTTON. One of the most sought after vintage Steiff bears in the world. Teddy is made from black mohair and is 5-ways jointed with tan felt paw pads. Solidly stuffed with excelsior. Non-working growler. With black hand-embroidered claws on hands & feet. Teddy`s face is detailed with highly distinctive red felt backed shoebutton eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. Teddy retains long trailing ""F"" button and a slight trace of his white tag. Only 655 total of these red backed eye bears were produced in response to the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 and according to the consignor, only 78 were made in this size and mohair configuration. REMARKABLE AND COMPLETE BROWN TIPPED STEIFF TEDDY CLOWN BEAR. A fantastic example of one of the rarest and most desirable Steiff bears. Teddy is 5-ways jointed, excelsior stuffed and made from brown tipped mohair with peach colored felt paw pads. Teddy`s face is detailed with brown and black colored eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. With original blue and white fabric clown ruff and cream colored felt clown hat with two original blue pom-poms. Bear retains all of his original Steiff identification including his named, metal rimmed chest tag, larger long trailing ""F"" Steiff button and crisp and fully red, legible ear tag with working squeaker. This pattern was only in the line from 1926-1930 and was also produced in pink and yellow mohair. The finest example of this design this cataloger has ever seen. SIZE: 12"" t (28cm) x 8-1/2"" (21cm). CIRCA 1912 VERY RARE CLOWN STYLE STEIFF RATTLE BEAR WITH BUTTON. A most unusual and delightful early Steiff rattle bear dressed in tiny clown accessories. Teddy is made from blond mohair and is 5-ways jointed. He does not have any paw pads or claw stitching. He has a working rattle, which was made by inserting a tube filled with beads into his belly. The bear`s face is detailed with black button eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. He has a particularly charming expression. Teddy wears a pointed tan felt hat with a reddish colored pom-pom, a matching tan felt ruff which has pinked edges, and a reddish bow and bell. These accessories are quite similar to those seen on Steiff`s felt monkeys of the period. This item does not appear in the standard Steiff reference books and is only the second one of its type that this cataloger has come across. This circa 1906 Steiff velvet rattle cat is unusual for its size; Steiff traditionally made rattle style items with smaller sized items that would scale to the size of a toddler`s hand. Cat is sitting, unjointed, and made from velvet that has been painted with black and grey spots and stripes. He has a very long tail which sticks out straight behind him. Cat`s serious face is detailed with tiny green and black slit pupil eyes and a light tan hand-embroidered nose. This cat design appeared overall in the Steiff line in 10, 12, 14, 17, and 22 cm in white and grey velvet from 1899 through 1927. Cat retains his tiny blank button as his Steiff ID. Cat is lying, unjointed, and made from white velvet that has been painted with black and grey spots and stripes. He has a very long tail which sticks out straight behind him. Cat wears a red bow and bell, and most interestingly, his highly coveted and earliest elephant style button is attached to the red ribbon. Cat holds a tiny gray and red woolen yarn ball between his front paws. Cat`s pensive face is detailed with tiny green and black slit pupil eyes, a light tan hand-embroidered nose and mouth, and clear monofilament whiskers. Cat also has a rattle in its belly; Steiff created this feature by inserting a tube with beads into the torso of the item. ADORABLE STEIFF FLUFFY CAT WITH MUSIC BOX FEATURE. This most endearing cat is sitting and head jointed. She is made from long white and gray tipped mohair which has turned to a lovely blue color over time; it is full and lovely all over her body. Her tail wraps gently around her backside and her front claws are defined by red stitches. Her face is detailed with very large blue/green and black slit pupil eyes and a pink hand-embroidered nose and mouth. Her press and release music box is non-functioning, although you can feel it in the base of her belly. A most interesting Steiff rabbit with a ""Muster"" (German for ""pattern"") button, indicating that he was a sample and never designed to leave the factory. Rabbit is head jointed, made from lilac and tan colored velvet, and is in a begging position. His ears are lined in wire and are posable. Face is detailed with black and brown glass pupil eyes and a red hand-embroidered nose and mouth. Interior of ears are lightly airbrushed in pink. Rabbit appears to have his original bow and bell, which has been reinforced with yellow thread. Rabbit retains his trailing ""F"" button and red ear tag with the article number written in by hand in left ear and the Muster button in his right ear. He is solidly stuffed and does not have claws. His face is detailed with black and brown glass pupil eyes, a red hand-embroidered nose and mouth, and clear monofilament whiskers. This darling handful also has a surprise-he is a tail moves head model-meaning that when his little mohair tail is twisted left or right, so does his head. This technology was part of Steiff`s continuous innovation process designed to give their products movement and life and was also used on certain select dogs and cats of the same general era. PRECIOUS 1930s ERA STEIFF CAT ON RED WOODEN WHEELS. Cat is standing and unjointed. Made from white and gray mohair which has been spotted with black highlights. Face is detailed with green and black glass pupil eyes, a pink hand-embroidered nose & mouth and clear monofilament whiskers. The cat has red hand-embroidered claws and wears her original bell and bow. She also retains her original Steiff button. Cat rides upon four red wooden eccentric wheels giving her a lifelike walking appearance as she is pulled along. Steiff has been making items on eccentric wheels since the early 1900s when they mistakenly miss-drilled the axles for pull toys, therefore inventing this distinctive feature. Lamb`s face is detailed with green and black pupil eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. His muzzle is highlighted with just a touch of red paint.
