With working pull cord voice. Bear rides upon a metal carriage with four metal wheels. Although originally made as toys for children, these early Steiff ride-on animals were made so solidly that they could easily support the weight of adults when they were new. STEIFF BLOND MOHAIR DICKY BEAR WITH BUTTON AND PLAIN FELT PAW PADS. An utterly charming example of Steiff`s relatively rare Dicky bear, which was produced as an inexpensive alternative to the company`s higher priced products in the early 1930s. This circa 1930s Dicky is 5-ways jointed with tan felt paw pads. This model was also produced with velvet paw pads which were authentically stenciled to look like a real bear`s paw. His distinctive and serious looking face is detailed with black and brown glass pupil eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth located on a prominent inset muzzle. His face is further highlighted with a touch of airbrushing around his eyes and mouth. Dicky retains his original long trailing ""F"" button and remains of his red ear tag as his Steiff IDs. This feature required the arms to be placed on a slightly different place on the bear`s torso than traditional teddy bears. Teddy is made from blond mohair with felt paw pads. His face is detailed with black shoebutton eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. Bear retains his trailing ""F"" button and traces of his white ear tag. Kitty has the delightful and relatively unusual tail moves head movement, which was only used on a few Steiff designs of the period, and designated a more exclusive item. Cat holds a woolen pom-pom ball between her front paws. She wears a pink bow and bell; the bow is still stitched to her and may be original. Steiff produced this design in white, and white and brown, in 13 and 15cm from 1927 through 1928 only. Steiff introduced woolen miniatures in the early 1930s in part to have a lower priced, collectible, entry level product offering, as well as to make items that would be good to display with other items and in vignettes.
