A LARGE GREEN GLAZED POTTERY LAMPMounted on a hardwood stand, with a large pleated shade, 37cm highCondition report: Good order, a few glazing blemishes to the glazed ceramic body as to be expected. Wood base secured with some wear, unable to see base of ceramic body. Shade completely worn. Will require rewiring. Approx 63m high to the top of the light fitment, see images.
A Chinese hors d'oeuvres set with circular lacquer box containing, six ceramic dishes forming a circle decorated with slightly different scenes of females sitting, total diameter 33cm (some chipping etc) Chipping to rims as catalogued, also enamels have some wear, lacquer container seems ok, but gilt decoration worn.
A BLUE AND WHITE ‘MAGPIE AND PRUNUS’ PORCELAIN PILGRIM FLASK OR MOON FLASK, BIANHUChina, Yongle style, 20th centuryThe gourd of round shape with a flat base and two half circled handles linking the shoulder to the tubular neck. Finely painted in blue shades with a Ming style ‘heap and pile’ effect. The decoration depicts magpies amidst plum tree blossomed branches as well as. A further geometrical pattern or band of foliage scrolls underlines the foot.H: 25 cmNotes:1. The form of this gourd is an adaptation of a much earlier foreign vessel inspired from leather bags or pilgrim bottles. This shape first appeared in Chinese ceramic production during the Han and Tang periods;2. One can say ‘There is a happy magpie on the tip of the plum branch’, lit. “Xi Shang Mei Shao” (喜上梅稍) which soundd exactly like ‘Xi Shang Mei Shao’ (喜上眉稍) lit. ‘Happiness up to one's eyebrows’;3. This flask dating to the 20th century would have been made after renowned related models dating to the Yongle period, such as that preserved in the Sir David Percival Foundation and now exhibited at the British Museum, London, The United Kingdom, and that preserved at the Shanghai Museum of Fine Arts, China.4. The above-mentioned vases have been published and illustrated in the series of books ‘Porcelain of the National Palace Museum’, Cafa Company Limited, Hong Kong, 1961-1969, ‘Blue and White Ware of the Ming Dynasty Book 1’, p. 58, pl. 9 and p. 60, pl. 10.ESTIMATE UPON REQUEST Condition Report: Condition report: A long firing crack to the base going to one side, identical to one of the original gourd after which this vase would have been made.

A LARGE FAMILLE ROSE PALETTE ‘EIGHT HORSES OF WANG MU’ PORCELAIN LANTERN VASE, THE DESIGN AFTER GIUSEPPE CASTIGLIONE (1688-1766) ALSO KNOWN AS LANG SHINING 郎世宁 China, 20th century The front part finely painted with eight horses in various positions amidst a landscape and below a pine tree, the back part inscribed with a poetry completed by three apocryphal red seals of Lang Shining. The below all covered in turquoise enamel but for the central square within which is an apocryphal cobalt blue six character seal / zhuanshu mark of the Emperor Qianlong. H: 33 cm Notes: 1. The story of The Eight Horses of King Mu of the Zhou Dynasty originates from a historical romance, The “Mu Tianzi Zhuan”(lit. “An Account of Emperor Mu”), which describes the journeys of the fifth emperor of the Zhou dynasty (1023-983 BC) during which he met Xi Wangmu, i.e. the Queen Mother of the West. 2. The below inscribed in iron red with a six-character seal / zhuanshu mark of the Emperor Daoguang within a double square. H: 8,6 cm - L 21,5 cm – w: 16 cm Note: The "Eight Treasures" (babao 八宝), also known as the "Eight Precious Things" and the "Eight Auspicious Treasures", may consist of eight ordinary symbols, the eight precious organs of the Buddha's body, the eight auspicious signs, or the various emblems of the eight Taoist Immortals. Mount Congreve – which was originally called ‘Brauchaille’ meaning the edge of a cliff in Irish - stands majestically above the River Suir, not far from the city of Waterford in the south east corner of Ireland. The house was built circa 1760 by the most-renowned local architect John Roberts for John Congreve, the son of a reputed politician and banker.2. Wallpaper was considered the height of desirability and rarity during the Qing Dynasty and was extremely expensive. The French dealer Lazare Duvaux (c. 1703-1758), amidst others, records the sale of six sheets of ‘China paper’ to the Countess of Valentinois in 1756 for 144 livres (Carl L. Crossman, The China Trade, Woodbridge, 1991, p. 390).3. The main subject is that of the sericulture.
