This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Sue Smith. Sue says ""We (Suffolk Breakthrough) were approached with this wonderful project way back at the begining of the year. What an amazing idea to help raise awareness. Of course I was going to be involved, having my breasts cast and put on display for all the world to see is the least I can do. I am extremely proud of how they look, all down to the wonderful artist who decorated them of course, thanks Joolz! If we save just one life from this project it has been worth the work it has taken to put it on. I have been truly inspired and moved by the stories of all of our models. Girls you are AMAZING!!!"". Sue`s cast was painted by Joolz Halpin-Wood. ""I chose to create a feminine design avoiding any pre-conceived plan or expectation - just go with the contours of the cast. This meant I did not dwell on the design but started `doodling` straight onto the cast. Using warm and cheery colours I hoped would project some positivity. It was important to me that the owner of the breasts would be pleased with the design and feel I had done her boobs justice. However, I did not know Sue or anything about her, other than she was a volunteer for Suffolk Breakthrough. This meant I had no idea of her likes or dislikes but Sue says she loves the decoration, so I hope Sue can be proud of her colourful breasts! This project has opened my eyes to the damage that breast cancer causes and I am proud to have been involved. The influences that came through in the design were yogic and eastern mysticism with the repetition of design from work as a textile designer. I studied Ceramic Design at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design and after graduating worked for many years as a textile designer for a suffolk weaving company. I am now starting work as a potter in my new studio in Sible Hedingham, Essex"". Contact:joolzhalpinwood@btinternet.com The approximate size of this cast is 15 inches x 8 inches.
