A polychrome ceramic plemochoe (kothon) attributed to the ’Wolfe Painter'; the frieze around the body divided by three spool-shaped and perforated handles, a dotted frieze around the rim, concentric circles to the underside and interior of the vessel. 414 grams, 17.5cm (7''"). A ceramic blackware lidded jar comprising a biconvex body with flared neck and four flared lugs to the equator, conical base, bands of incised chevron detailing to the base, body and shoulder; domed discoid lid with central spike and four radiating lugs, incised lattice bands; each lug pierced at the base. 346 grams, 14cm (5 1/2"). From an important English collection; acquired from Gorny & Mosch, Munich, Germany. Fine condition, small repair to inside edge of lid.

A ceramic vessel formed as a horse with arched neck, saddlecloth, crupper with impressed pendants to the rump, applied bridle detailing, waisted filling spout to the back and pouring spout to the chest. 1.09 kg, 24cm (9 1/2"). Property of a Brussels gentleman; acquired from Stair Galleries, New York, USA, in 2009. Very fine condition.
2nd-1st millennium BC. A ceramic vessel with bulbous body and strap handle, applied finely-detailed spout depicting a stylised lion with its mouth open exposing the sharp teeth, painted details to the mane and neck; the body of the vessel decorated with a band of painted cross-hatched triangles, rosettes between, semicircles with radiating lines below; two bigger rosettes to each side of the spout and a band of small triangles to the upper body; the handle decorated with hatched lines in a frame. 1.2 kg, 20cm (8"). Property of a UK gentleman; acquired in 2010 from a Mayfair gallery; previously in an old UK collection. Fine condition.

A ceramic vessel in the shape of a reclining bull with erect pierced head, the body decorated with incised chevrons and dots, short neck with flared rim to the back, the tail curving upwards forming the handle. 132 grams, 93mm long (3 5/8"). From a private Belgian collection; previously part of a private collection formed in Germany in the 1990s. [No Reserve]Fine condition.
4th-8th century AD. A ceramic round-based bowl, inscribed with exceptionally long and fine inscription in Aramaic, the inscription in spiral from the bottom inner wall to the rim. 308 grams, 19.5cm (7 3/4"). Ex North London gentleman; formerly from a major collection formed 1970-1990. Aramaic incantation bowls are particular to the Sassanian period and have been found in the regions of modern-Iraq. These simple ceramic bowls, also known as magic bowls, each contain an Aramaic inscription, written in ink, which spirals from the centre. The bowls seem to have played an important part in domestic life. For example, during excavation in Nippur in 1889, one or more incantation bowls were found in each house together with domestic artefacts, most often in doorways or under floorboards in the corner of rooms. The bowls are predominantly apotropaic, and the inscriptions tend to protect their owners from misfortunes such as child-birth, illness and evil spirits. Fine condition, repaired.

A hollow-formed ceramic figure of a satyr with human head and torso, horse's legs and tail, seated on a wicker basket; the hair worn long and falling to the back, the right arm bent; left arm absent with pierced socket at the shoulder. 1.2 kg, 26.5cm (10 1/2"). A pair of ceramic polo player figurines on custom-made stands comprising: one in active pose with horse's legs extended, mouth open, painted bridle and harness detailing, rider with blue ankle-length tunic, body angled forward, hands clenched to hold reins and mallet, moulded saddle and stirrups; one similar with green tunic, tan horse with white cannons. 9.3 kg total including stand, 46cm each (18"). From the property of a London gentleman; formerly in a UK collection, acquired in the 1990s; accompanied by original thermoluminescence test certificate no.C119c97 issued by Oxford Authentication Ltd. for one of the figures. A large ceramic bicolour vessel with pear-shaped bulbous body with flared base, tall neck with wide flared rim, raised circumferential band below the neck and to the body; two stylised lion masks with loops for handles to the shoulder, the face with lentoid eyes and applied pellets, incised ribs to the loops. 4.2 kg, 40cm (15 3/4"). Property of a North London gentleman; previously in a private collection formed in the 1990s; accompanied by a thermoluminescence certificate no. C118398 from Oxford Authentication. Hu jars were used for storage of wine and foodstuffs for the afterlife. Fine condition.
