A CHINESE GOLD LACQUER AND MOTHER OF PEARL INLAID SMALL COSMETIC BOX in the manner of Jiang Qianli, late Ming/early Qing Dynasty, with cinquefoil flowerhead, each petal with a different densely patterned ground, 4.5cm dia. x 1.5cm high. Jiang Qianli was a late Ming Master in inlaid lacquerware. A rather similar Qianli (marked) hexafoil box was included in the Exhibition at the Hong Kong Oriental Ceramic Society, Arts from the Scholars Studio, Hong Kong, 1986, catalogue p.169, no. 144. Condition report: Numerous small inlaid sections missing, particularly from all the four rims of the piece. Typical light wear throughout and other small losses. Structurally sound.

CHINESE PATRIOTIC RICE BOWLSPair of white ceramic rice bowls, the larger approx. 2 1/4" x 6 1/4" dia., and the smaller approx. 2 1/4" x 4 1/2" dia. The larger bowl bears the inscription": "Long Live Chairman Mao" beneath a red rising sun and among sunflowers, with a maker's mark on the base indicating that it was made in Jingde County, China. The smaller bowl bears the inscription: "The core leading force of our cause is the Communist Party. The theoretical basis of our ideology is Marxism and Leninism", within a scroll surrounded by pine boughs and a black fish. The base bears a maker's mark, also identifying it as being made in Jingde County. Both bear minor soiling, else very good.
"QUOTATIONS OF CHAIRMAN MAO" TEAPOTWhite ceramic teapot, approx. 6 1/2" x 5 1/5" dia., decorated with the image of an ocean liner underway, beneath a representation of Mao Zedong's "Little Red Book" surrounded by sunbeams. The lid bears an inscription in Chinese: "Serve the People", and the base bears an unidentified maker's mark with the date 1968. Some minor blemishes, else very good.
INDUSTRIALIZATION OF CHINA PATRIOTIC COVERED JARLarge ceramic jar with lid, approx. 13" x 8 1/2" dia., painted with a scene of a city skyline dominated by power lines and cranes, framed against a setting sun and placed over a large illustration of peony blossoms, with the slogan "Socialism is Good" in Chinese. The base bears the makers mark of the Xiangjiang Porcelain Factory in Zhuzhou City, with the date 1967. Some minor blemishes, else fine.
FOUR SNUFF BOTTLES WITH STANDGroup of four Chinese snuff bottles, each ovoid in shape and between 1 3/4" and 2 3/4"tall. One is white ceramic with famille rose-style decorations and a green stone stopper, while the remaining three are of carved stone: one of amethyst with a matching stopper, decorated with carved flowers; the second of dark brown agate with a green stone stopper, decorated with a carved figure of a cat or tiger; and the third of milky white stone, possibly jade or jadeite, with a green stone stopper, decorated with a carving of a dragon. These bottles were used to carry snuff tobacco, which was permitted in nineteenth-century China for nominally medicinal purposes, while other forms of tobacco were outlawed. All are very good. Also present is a carved wooden stand with spaces for each bottle.
