An Italian Teapot, Maker's Mark '1763MI', Late 20th Century, modelled as a seated camel, the head forming the spout, the handle modelled as a male figure tying a pack to the camels' hump, the hinged cover with loop finial, 27cm wide, 35oz The present teapot is a faithful reproduction of a glazed and gilded earthenware teapot, made by Moore Bros., an example of which is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, having been transferred from the Museum of Practical Geology (2815&A-1901). The charming shape of the teapot, often referred to as 'Karawan', ensured that it was a popular model, having been made not only in ceramic but also in silver, like the present example, and in silver plate, see for example one retailed by Mariage Freres, sold Sotheby's, New York, 30 March 2004, lot 12.. Marked underneath with maker's mark and further stamped '925'. In generally good condition with only some very minor surface scratches. The ring thumbpiece differs slightly from on the original teapot which is formed as a twisted rope.
