The jacket is notoriously color-fragile with the jacket spine often found highly faded, our copy without a hint of fading. Overall a highly desirable copy of the scarce hardcover first edition. Comment(s): The first edition hardcover by Madoura has become very scarce, with a corresponding rise in the price. The most recent auction record we could find is a sale for $6,250 at Christie's New York, Noverber 15, 2022, with the dust jacket exhibiting a highly sunned spine. William White for Royal Doulton: A Rare Ceramic Figure The Coquette HN 20, 1913-1938, the child with blue dress holding a blue fan, on a stepped pale blue base, green printed factory mark, black hand written HN 20 "The Coquette" ;- W.White. sc Potted by ;- Doulton & Co. ,23cm high (restored)The figure appears to have been in half, glued back together with visible brown glue, from the front this can be seen running under the figures left arm, under the fan, over the right shoulder and across the back. A RARE JAPANESE CONTEMPORARY ARITA PORCELAIN VASE, YŪKI HAYAMA (b.1961).Created by dyeing the quails depicted on gold folding screens, a specialty of the Tosa school of Japanese painting. Signed and comes in a signed tomobako box. Vase approx. 33cm x 33cm.A native of Arita, the birthplace of Japan’s ceramic tradition, Yūki Hayama established his own kiln in Yamauchi Town (Saga Prefecture) in 1985 at the age of 23. He inherited the 400 year old tradition of Hizen ceramics and is highly acclaimed for his meticulous hand painted designs and techniques inspired by Japanese mythology and nature. What makes his masterpieces even more impressive is the fact that he doesn’t sketch his designs beforehand, but paints directly onto the pottery. An internationally celebrated artist, Yūki Hayama has exhibited his work around the world, more recently at ‘Garden of Dreams’ exhibition in 2021 at the Ippodo Gallery, New York (see www.ippodogallery.com/artists/64-yuki-hayama). He also has many publications to his name and his works are displayed in numerous public collections, both in Japan and internationally. Condition: Good overall condition without damage or repairs.
