Victorian walnut showframe chaise lounge, having foliate moulded and scrolled pierced decoration, deep buttoned back, serpentine stuff over seat on cabriole legs with ceramic casters. Length 165cm approx.(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Appearing in sound condition, commensurate with age, upholstery has wear. Small length of moulding missing from the front bar.

Michael Powolny (Austrian, 1871-1954) FEMALE FIGURE HOLDING AN HOURGLASS glazed ceramic signed on base Michael Powolny was a sculptor, ceramist, designer, and teacher born in Judenburg, Austria. In 1906 along with Bertold Löffler he founded the Wiener Keramik workshop, which later became part of the Wiener Werkstätte. He died in Vienna and is remembered for his various individual sculptures and municipal monuments such as fountains and war memorials as well as designs for household objects. Four examples of his work can be found in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. 33.50 by 11in. (85.1 by 27.9cm)
