The dog freely modeled in a reclining pose, the front paws placed one above the other, wearing a ruff around the neck tied at the back in a long lace and with a bell dangling in front. Covered overall in a finely crackled glaze of pale grayish-blue tone, the base left unglazed.Provenance: Old Austrian private collection. By repute acquired from Galerie Zacke, Vienna, Austria, 1996.Condition: With old wear and firing flaws, such as short firing cracks and fritting, the snout and lace with a small chip. A WHITE GLAZED ANHUA DECORATED STEM CUP, YUAN DYNASTYChina, 1279-1368. Well potted with shallow sides flaring to an everted rim, supported on a hollow splayed cylindrical foot, the interior molded with a band of lappets comprising stylized bats. Covered overall with an even white glaze save for the unglazed foot ring revealing the buff ware. Provenance: Bluett & Sons according to label on fitted box. Ex R.F.A. Riesco (1877-1964) collection according to da Silva notes and collection label on the base. Sotheby's, 11 December 1974, lot 286 according to da Silva notes. Bluett & Sons was an important dealer of Chinese works of art, founded by brothers Leonard and Edgar Bluett and later continued by Leonard's son Roger Bluett, who was president of the British Antique Dealers' Association, of which his father and uncle were founding members in 1919, during the mid-1970s. Roger Bluett was also Chairman of the Grosvenor House Antiques, first Chairman of the ceramics course at West Dean and first Chairman of the Museum of East Asian Art, Bath. A George IV carved rosewood library armchair the design by John TaylorUpholstered and close-nailed in green velvet the lotus leaf carved top-rail above a rectangular padded back, arms and seat, the arm supports carved with stylised leaves above a moulded seat rail on turned lotus leaf carved legs headed by paterae, with brass cappings and ceramic castors, 72cm wide, 60cm deep, 96cm high, seat height 43cm.This library armchair relates to a design by John Taylor, upholsterer, whose Upholsterer's and Cabinet-Maker's Pocket Assistant was first published around 1825. Taylor, who contributed a number of designs to Ackermann's Repository of Arts between 1821 and 1824, had been employed at the workshops of George Oakley and established his own upholstery business on Bedford Street, Covent Garden around 1824 (C. Gilbert, Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1986, p. 877). A COMPOSITE CHANTILLY PORCELAIN PART DINNER SERVICE VARIOUS DATES LAST QUARTER 18TH CENTURY Painted in blue with scattered floral sprays, comprising: a pair of quatrefoil serving dishes; a quatrefoil section small tureen, cover, and stand; another tureen and cover; a pair of sugar bowls; two butter tubs and integral stands (lacking covers); approximately twenty one soup plates; and approximately 107 dinner plates; and various assorted ozier-moulded plates similar and en-suite, comprising; approximately twenty seven plates and ten soup plates, blue hunting horn marksProvenance: from the collection of Victoria, Lady de Rothschild Condition Report: All plates with some wear, although in reasonable condition throughout, but with some damage. Some plates have some small chips and nibbles to the rims, a few chips are large, a few examples with pitting to glaze from manufacture, there are some slight variations in the pattern colour and design, and the sharpness in the decoration- some have a slight blurry appearance. Some plates have an embossed lattice effect to the ceramic around the border, but most are without.
