A GLAZED CERAMIC JUG BY SOUTHERN FOLK ARTIST, AMERICAN, EARLY 20TH CENTURYof rounded shape, depicting Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, against a earth toned ground of dark green and burnt orange. Adam and Eve dressed in leaves, holding stakes are depicted on either side of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, baring the forbidden fruit, and the snake is wrapped around the tree trunk. inscribed illegibly and factory mark on bottom. height: 39 cm (15 3/8 in.). CONDITIONThe jug appears in good condition. Fine, stable and age-appropriate craquelure overall. Loss of paint to tree of knowledge and forbidden fruit, most notably to the lower right. Lower right on side of jug shows white paint splatter. Inspection under UV shows no apparent signs of restoration. N.B. All lots are sold in as-is condition at the time of sale. A PAIR OF CERAMIC AND BRASS LION BOOKENDS, EARLY 20TH CENTURY each bookend formed as a lion and lioness, each with a paw up and tongue out, both standing on a naturalistic brass geometric plinth with floral cartouches, both come with red velvet stair stepped bases, lioness height: 15 cm (5 7/8 in.); lion height: 16 cm (6 1/4 in.); brass base dimensions: 12 x 15 cm (4 3/4 x 5 7/8 in.); overall height with velvet base: 21 cm (8 1/4 in.) CONDITION Each bookend appears in age-appropriate condition. Patina and darkening visible to the brass bases. Minor surface scuffs and scratches visible to the bodies of the lion and lioness. N.B.
