AN ARMAND MARSEILLE BISQUE HEAD DOLL, nape of neck marked 'AM Germany 351.16K', sleeping eyes, no lashes, some wear to paint on lids, open mouth showing one tooth (other missing?), moulded and painted hair, has a number of cracks to head and neck, jointed composition body with some damage including missing fingers and toes, cracks, paint loss, marking and wear, head a little loose, height approximately 55cm, with a composition doll, ceramic socket head, faint diamond shape mark to nape of neck, painted eyes and moulded and painted hair, open mouth, several cracks and old repairs to head, jointed composition body marked 22 on back, old repairs by covering some of the body in a stuck down cloth bandage, body has some damage, wear and paint loss, in need of re-stringing, height approximately 55cm (2)
An elegantly proportioned deep, round cup with a slightly flared rim and with a shallow foot, decorated with a pleasing, lustrous white glaze, set within a double circle, an underglaze blue Kangxi six-character mark at the base.PROVENANCE: Private Collection USA related cup was recorded in 《Sun Yingzhou de Taoci Shijie》(the Ceramic world of Sun Yingzhou ), the National Palace Museum, Forbidden City Publishing, 2003, page195, pl.116, and another sold in Sotheby's Hong Kong 28 November 1978, lot 129, then sold again in 27 May 2014, lot 721.
Finely modelled, the figure of the Bodhisattva standing barefoot on a base of swirling waves, with her head turned to one side and with a serene expression, wearing long flowing robes that cover her hands and open at the chest to reveal a beaded ruyi necklace, her hair is swept up behind a diadem beneath the cowl, and her back impressed with a three-character seal mark of He Chaozong within a double-gourd, applied overall with an even creamy, ivory-tinged glaze. A similar figure was exhibited from the Kempe Collection, in ‘The Art of the Ching Dynasty’, The Oriental Ceramic Society, London, 1964, cat.no.294. Another from the Edward T. Chow collection, sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 19 May 1981, lot 465. Decorated in underglaze blue line under soft green enamels, against the white glazed ground, with two five-clawed dragons striding in pursuit of flaming pearls amidst scrolling clouds and flames, beneath a band of Buddhist Emblems, the ‘bajixiang’ and a band of ‘ruyi’ heads around the shoulder, and above petal lappets around the base, the cover with a similar dragon medallion above a band of ‘ruyi’ heads on the sides, the base bearing the underglaze blue six character mark of Qianlong.PROVENANCE: Chak's, Hong KongIt is quite rare to find jars of this design complete with their covers. An elegant Yaozhou celadon bowl, Northern Song dynasty, of rounded conical form with widely flared sides, the interior divided into six radiating panels by raised slip bowstring lines, beneath an olive green glaze, the neatly formed foot-rim unglazed, exposing the buff body.
