Stoneware featuring desert brown glaze. Incised signature along the footrim.Height: 29 1/2 in x diameter: 7 1/2 in.Condition: No visible chips, cracks, or losses. Underside not inspected due to the nature of the object, which is secured to a circular wooden plinth. A few small firing flaws along the sides. Lamp not tested for functionality. Light wear to the wooden base.
Paolo Soleri (Italian/American, 1919-2013) for Arcosanti, United States. Cluster of three ceramic bronze wind bells or wind chime. With a lovely verdigris patina throughout the metal components.Soleri coined his architectural design studio and nonprofit foundation "Cosanti," from the blending of the Italian words "cosa" and "anti," meaning "against things." This was done as a critique of the culture of consumerism he witnessed taking hold in the world. In 1970, The Cosanti Foundation began construction of a prototype arcology city (a term coming from the blending of architecture and ecology). This city in the Arizona desert would be named Arcosanti. Built on sustainable architecture, the artisans of this city are famous for their wind chimes and bells.Height: 19 in x width: 10 in x depth: 10 in.Condition: Wear throughout commensurate with age and use including tarnishing and verdigris patination to the metallic elements.
Group of two pueblo pottery vessels including a black-on-white Zuni ceramic pot or bowl depicting a heavily worn triangular geometric motif along the shoulder, accompanied by three ceramic spheres or balls, and a double-spouted Nazca stirrup cup depicting a polychrome pigment birds and flower design. The stirrup cup with a wooden stand.(Pot) Height: 3 1/2 in x diameter: 5 in. (Cup) Height: 3 1/4 in x diameter: 3 in.Condition: To the stirrup cup, there are no major breaks to the body of the vessel. There are some chips and small losses to the polychrome pigment along the exterior. To the pot, there is heavy wear and loss to the pigment along the exterior, consistent with age and use.

Several tiles stamped "Grueby Tile" and "Boston" along the underside.(Tiles, each) height: 6 in x width: 6 in x depth: 3/4 in.Condition: General wear throughout consistent with age and use including some chips, scuffs, and some small losses along corners and high points. Many of the tiles are with cement affixed to the underside, consistent with their purpose as building materials, possibly obscuring further marks.

It is decorated with dotted reliefs and beautiful ruyi border designs that hold small lotuses in bloom, framing the central scene that shows a network of thin branches of flowering peonies, accompanied by delicate leaves that surround two medallions linked with openwork detailing. Ceramic modelled in the form of a ‘Yuhuchunping’ vase, with a short circular foot on which is placed a wide, pear-shaped belly that narrows at the neck and ends in a flaring mouth. The exterior is decorated with underglaze blue and white enamels, creating a succession of overlapping stripes of alternating fretwork, lotus latticework, lacework, banana leaves and curved branches of peony blossoms. Kaolin ceramic figure with visible traces of polychromy. It shows the image of a man, with both legs bent and arms stretched out in front of him, possibly riding a horse. He is dressed in the traditional clothing of merchants of the period. It is considered to be part of a larger composition, which would show the scene of the horseman, together with his horse, carrying a cart. They have an elongated conical foot on which sits a rounded belly that tapers at the shoulders into an elongated neck, flanked by two sinuous openwork ruyi-sceptre ears, which close at the level of the mouth, in the shape of a bulb. They are adorned with a relief scene of beautiful birds on the curved branches of a cherry blossom tree, which stand out against the intense pale blue of the background, all under a fine glaze.
